Bentley Press Releases

Sorry, i kinda fell behind at posting them here so below are a few new ones:
BENTLEY GLOBAL SALES BOOSTED BY NEW MODELS

First half-year sales up 20% driven by high demand for new Continental GT
Crewe, 1st July 2011: Bentley today confirmed that its global sales for the first half of 2011 have increased by 20% on the same period last year. 2978 cars were delivered to customers in the first six months, the best start to a year by Bentley since 2008.
The surge in sales has been led by demand for Bentley's newly launched Continental GT and the popularity of the brand in China, where sales have increased by 57% on last year's figures. 680 cars have been sold in China, a new record for Bentley's fastest growing market.
Europe and the Americas have also performed strongly. Europe has increased its sales by a quarter to 494 and the Americas up by 23% with 907 cars sold in the first half of 2011. The UK has continued its steady growth, up 6% with 533 cars sold, growth held back only by continuing low consumer confidence. However, Bentley continues to increase its market share in its home market.
Other regions have presented a more mixed picture with Asia-Pacific region down marginally - predominantly due to the decline in the Japanese market as a result of the recent tragic natural disaster - and the Middle East which has also declined slightly as a result of the ongoing political unrest.
The new Continental GT is the latest iteration of Bentley's iconic Continental design and its new exterior and powerful new engines are setting even higher standards of design, engineering, craftsmanship and dynamic driving. Its success is re-energising the brand and attracting a new era of Bentley customers. At the same time demand for Bentley's flagship model the Mulsanne is also extremely strong and the wider Continental range continues to perform well.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Bentley's Chief Executive said:
"Interest in our product range is increasing and with our largest markets achieving significant growth we are on track to meet our targets for the full year.
"It's an exciting time for Bentley as we continue to invest in new product development, the results of which will be seen for months to come. With more new model launches later this year we foresee this growth continuing into 2012 and beyond."
Alasdair Stewart, Bentley's Member of the Board for Sales and Marketing said:
"Following last year's 11% increase in sales, our half-year figures show that Bentley sales are rebounding. Confidence is returning to many markets and we expect this growth to continue as customers around the world take delivery of the new Continental GT."

Notes to editors
  1. Bentley Motors is the third largest R&D investor in the UK's automotive sector and the 18th largest nationally. The company employs almost 4,000 people in Crewe which is home to all its operations including design, R&D, engineering and production. The combination of fine craftsmanship, using skills that have been handed down through generations, alongside engineering expertise and cutting-edge technology is unique to UK luxury vehicle manufacturers such as Bentley. It is also an example of high-value British manufacturing at its best. Bentley exports over £500m worth of goods every year to established markets like the US, as well as emerging markets such as China and South America.
  2. Earlier this year Bentley announced that China had outsold the UK for the first time making it the second most important market after the United States. With half year sales up by 57%, around one in four Bentleys sold globally is now sold in China.

KANKKUNEN TURNS UP THE HEAT AT GOODWOOD WITH BENTLEY’S RECORD BREAKING CONTINENTAL SUPERSPORTS
  • Record breaking Bentley ice racer storms the hill
  • DEREK BELL showcases the new CONTINENTAL GT
(Crewe/Goodwood. 4 July, 2011) Juha Kankkunen, the four-time world rally champion, turned up the heat at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed when he was reunited with his world ice-speed record breaking Bentley Continental Supersports convertible.
The muscular 6.0 litre, 12-cylinder Bentley with its distinctive black and bright red livery proved to be one of the real head-turners in Goodwood’s famous Supercar Paddock.
Earlier this year, Kankkunen and the all-wheel drive Continental Supersports convertible set a new world best of 205.48mph (330.695km/h) on a 16.5km long ice track on a 70cm-thick layer of Baltic Sea ice, off the coast of Finland.
Goodwood’s famous Hill Climb and three days of hot, summer sunshine did not present Kankkunen with the extreme challenge he faced on the ice track. That did not stop him however from delivering for the large Festival crowds a series of typically blistering runs with the 640PS (631bhp) Supersports, the world’s fastest production convertible road car,
“Driving this very special Bentley Continental in front of the packed Goodwood grandstands was a special experience for me,” Juha explained.
“Driving on a frozen sea was a unique challenge and only a few Bentley engineers and my support crew were there to witness the new world record. So it was a pleasure to provide a glimpse of the capabilities of this Bentley to a huge audience of motorsport enthusiasts on a beautiful summer’s day.”
Kankkunen was joined in the Bentley ‘corner’ of the Supercar Paddock by five-time Le Mans winner, Derek Bell and the new Bentley Continental GT.
Bell, who has worked with Bentley for over a decade as a professional driving consultant for the company’s road car programme as well as helping to guide the Company’s victorious Le Mans campaign in 2003, was also formidably quick up the hill.
“Driving the GT at Goodwood was a lot of fun. The new car maintains all the luxury and refinement for which Bentley is renowned, but is even quicker, dynamically sharper and more powerful than its predecessor.”

TIBALDI WINS TOP AWARD - BENTLEY PEN PARTNER

CREWE, 21st July 2011 Bentley is delighted to announce that its pen partner Tibaldi has recently won the Most Exciting Motorsport Pen at Pen World’s 17th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards.
The Tibaldi for Bentley Mulsanne pen was chosen by readers because it was inspired by the roaring engines which are associated with the legendary straight and corner at the Le Mans circuit. The Readers’ Choice awards were presented in New York City and the complete list published in Pen World.
The Bentley Mulsanne embodies the challenges that honed the marque’s reputation. The flagship model reflects the masterpiece 1930 8-litre vehicle owned by W.O. Bentley himself. The 8-litre defines the heart and soul of the Mulsanne, which was designed, engineered and built entirely in the company’s headquarters in Crewe in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The Mulsanne is the pinnacle of Bentley motoring – like its ancestor, a true grand tourer.

As interpreted by Tibaldi, the Tibaldi for Bentley Mulsanne pens marry two traditions, two aesthetics. Now an established family of writing instruments for connoisseurs, the pens fashioned by the Italian maker for the world’s leading maker of luxury cars employ the proportions and patented technologies of Tibaldi, with the forms and details prescribed by the cars they honour.
Giuseppe Aquila, Tibaldi CEO, says: “The greatest challenge when developing these extraordinary pens has been the production of the wood components, which were designed to match the interior of this outstanding new car.”
To capture the essence of the Bentley Mulsanne, Tibaldi has fashioned a series of writing instruments that communicate the feel of the car in a piece of functional, hand-held sculpture. Fingers holding the Mulsanne will make contact with knurled bands, the surface matched on the pocket clip, echoing the design of Bentley switchgear. The pen is topped with a Bentley emblem which recalls the vehicle’s starter button. And every pen adheres to Tibaldi’s respect for the Divine Proportion, the ratio between the pen’s cap and the visible portion of the barrel when the pen is closed, equalling the ratio of 1.618.
Fashioned from precious metals, including versions in sterling silver and 18K rose gold, the Tibaldi for Bentley Mulsanne is unmistakably an accessory to a car handcrafted from the finest materials. The pen will be limited to 90 fountain pens and 90 roller ***** per finish in the sterling silver version and 9 fountain pens and 9 roller ***** per finish in the solid 18K rose gold version. This represents a significant anniversary for Bentley: 2009 marked 90 years since Walter Owen Bentley founded the company that bears his name.
There are three finishes with their caps and barrels accented in one of the three woods found in the cars themselves: Dark Stained Vavona, Burr Oak and Burr Walnut.
SUPERSPORTS PEN JOINS THE CONTINENTAL COLLECTION
Every Bentley car is a statement. With the Continental Supersports, Bentley shows that limitless performance, peerless comfort, and sublime elegance are compatible with a changing world. To define a supercar for the 21st century, embodying all of Bentley’s traditional values but honed to accommodate modern needs, the Continental Supersports’ designers exploited the limits of aerodynamics, employed radical new materials, banished excess weight, and adapted the powertrain to work with FlexFuel. The result has been described as “the most extreme Bentley ever”.
The Tibaldi for Bentley Supersports collection has its own tradition to follow, with every fountain pen and roller ball sharing materials and aesthetic details consistent with the vehicles they symbolise. Giuseppe Aquila, CEO of Tibaldi, says: “The close collaboration between our engineers and Bentley’s design team of Robin Page, head of Interior Design, and Jonathan Punter, resulted in the creation of an outstanding pen, which encapsulates the features of Bentley’s most powerful car ever.”

As interpreted by Tibaldi, the Tibaldi for Bentley Supersports pens lose nothing in translation. The series of writing instruments speaks in the design language of the vehicle itself. Each pen features Tibaldi’s unique pocket clip terminated in a rolling ball and, to extol its extreme functionality and purpose, Tibaldi’s designers turned to carbon fibre – the material most evocative of modern technology – with solid titanium trims. Materials such as these enable the Supersports to be both lighter and stronger.
Addressing the exclusivity of the actual car, the Tibaldi for Bentley Supersports will be limited to 630 fountain pens and 630 roller *****. The number of pieces manufactured corresponds with the horsepower of the actual Supersports car.

ADDED: i have a Tibaldi Bentley rollerball and the case fits perfectly in the passenger armrest and the rollerball works great in the heat of summer or cold of winter here in the mountain area. Great pen!
