Drive Side Display Not Visible (gone dark)

The small LCD display above the steering wheel has seemingly gone dark.

I can see the content on the display at night (oddly) so I know it's still working, but it lacks the rear illumination.

Any idea if this can be addressed through a fuse somewhere?

As a side note I noticed the batteries were losing juice so I recently recharged them which restored a lot of functions, but not this one.

Disconnect the battery, wait 1 minute reconnect..

Had a little freak out myself and that fixed it.

Good luck.

I tried to do this a while back and ran into some difficulties. There appear to be two batteries in the trunk and the connections to them seem to be pretty comprehensive. Would it be the case that I need to dis-connect one or both? I could have sworn I disconnected both at the time but I do remember it being a major hassle.

Hey Jack,

Do you know for sure if disconnection won't affect other electrics at all? I get really nervous about this because all my other high-ender car manuals have warned never to completely lose the charge. Maybe the second battery is a backup source?

Is there an easy way to disconnect the battery? I only ask because there are an awful lot of connections to the terminals.

I read that in the manual too. When mine went bazerk. I called bentley and the guy said, probably needs a new instrument cluster those are 3,800 plus labor.. So before I took it up there, (90 minute drive) I asked my brother which is a world class cell phone tech and he said cell phones do the same exact thing and to disconnect the battery.. Did that and it seemed to work from then on..

3800 + labor(to remove the dash) or disconnect the battery.. well worth the risk to me..

Start at the lug nuts on the front tire.. Just kidding.

I honestly cant remember, but it was not too hard to take it off and put it back on. the whole thing took 5 minutes. I think all the wires connect to the one terminal, take that terminal off.

Bummer. No luck. Disconnected both batteries which forced a reset but didn't bring back my lcd screen.

Any chance that illumination/light is tied to a fuse somewhere?
