Dealer service for the GT

Car was towed to dealers last week as a minor incident with a kerb tore up both RHS tires! Very minor rim damage but the tires ripping up so easily? I knew one was old being 2006 but the 2009 as well? I replaced all 4 to be safe but has anyone experienced anything similar with the 275/40R19 tires?

I got the 6/7yr service plan at a cost of USD5,600 which comes with 3yr warranty on work carried out minus wear/tear parts. I dont know how much servicing costs in US but at 2,800 isnt too bad right?

Replaced below parts at additional cost with 30% discount given.

Front upper links x 4
Bank 1 exhaust sensor
Main/starter battery
Horn #2
RHS soft close fixed, door module and bowden cable replaced

Joke of the day....i asked how much to change the 12 spark plugs...USD1,200! haha

I just had the plugs change out on my 07 and it costed $800USD. I was doing an ECU upgrade and wanted to be sure they were ok. The tech said after the five years and the 16K miles they probably did not have to go but we did it anyways.

Service for this car is not cheap but should be fair. That is where the argument it.

Tires do not need miles to deteriorate. I have a careful eye on mine and have decided to wear them out so I can buy some new ones. These are ultra high performance tires so longevity is not the primary selling point.

so for $2800 you had all these replaced plus 4 new tires?

Front upper links x 4
Bank 1 exhaust sensor
Main/starter battery
Horn #2
RHS soft close fixed, door module and bowden cable replaced

I say that's a fair price. Those tires will run $1500-1700 easy.

BTW, you can have curb marks fixed on wheels for about $150 a rim, unless they are chrome. Fix if the damage is cosmetic and bothers you.

$2800 USD for all that? That is pretty cheap. I priced tires and was told 450X4.

Yup the tires, even from Tire Rack, aint cheap. Good tires cost good money and remember these are very heavy cars. Bugatti tires are like, what, $20,000 a set?

I am pretty careful about tires. My life is riding on tires and brakes. If the motor won't start that is bad but I am not in danger. I ride motorcycles and you only have two tires in them and if one goes down your hurt. I will spend on tires and will not keep worn ones on to save a few bucks.

That would be a great price from the dealer.

Paid below prices.

5,600 for two year service plan.
2,800 for set of Pzero 275/40R19 B1. Told B3 wear down real quick.
Normally get a set for 2,300 but 2 week lead time as no one keeps stock apart from dealer, forced to buy as two were gone.

5,600 for remaining repairs. Roughly 50/50 parts and labor.

Spark plug change would come to roughly 700 after discount so I guess service/repair charges are similiar in US n HK.

Gotta spend money on quality tires. Pirelli and Nitto. I am starting to prefer Nittos over Ps. But none the less, they are both great tire companies.

2800 for a set of 4 tires is pretty steep in US. I think HK tire prices are higher.

5600 for all the remaining stuff seems to be a bit high too. are there any high end shops in HK that works on Bentley?

I did pay a bit more for the tires but as no shops keep stock of the special B1 grade must buy at dealers.

The 5600 repairs is a bit high but no shop has parts nor the computer to work on the GT. I was told it needed a special computer to reset certain modules or would a rosstech handle it all? Further peace of mind is I get 3yrs warranty on installed parts which no 3rd garage will provide.

I could source parts from Bentley UK but after delivery charges and installation at x garage who may not have the correct tools its easier to use dealer. I was told the GT does not use traditional method for wheel alignment as its set by the parts itself, cam washers or something. Dealer mech told me there is a special tool to lock the alignment before installing control arms.

Update

Called another dealer and they confirm GT does require wheel alignment. First dealer I called didn't have the equipment but could of told me other branch has it! Dealer wants usd1000 for alignment!

After installing new front upper links I can detect slight vibration at low speeds, not tires as all new and balanced.

Thanks

Odds are all you need is the factory alignment specs and then any good shop can do it. Of course the local VW dealer may be able to help so see what they are asking for alignment as Bentley is part of the VW Group. Frankly, $1k seems way, WAY out of the ballpark in pricing for just an alignment. IMHO $300 MAX. Seems to me Bentley is getting into the habit of doing the 4x multiple. Way too high priced $2000 for a Bluetooth kit that should cost $500 and bet we can find the VW equiv one day for $500… $1k for iPod unit installed that costs $250 and takes 10 minutes to install, etc.

So $1k for alignment, figure $250 at a normal shop. Racer and exotic car 'math' can be avoided with smart purchasing. Someone has to be 'The Bad Guy' and call out Bentley on these incredibly high prices. Of course we are smart, educated and web-savvy people here

So that anyone out there can afford to trade up when our CGTs ultimately depreciate to silly levels? "Hey, I can finally afford a real Bentley! Wonder if Joe's Garage can change the plugs on this baby."

Gotta do something to keep the masses away, and the pocket is always the ultimate deterrent.

Found a shop that services mainly Bentley, Ferrari n P cars. Called and found out they have hired ex Bentley staff from UK to HK. They have Bentley tools and equipment but alignment is done on their Hunter machine which also measures suspension height which is required for the GT.

Guy on shop said about 150 which is very reasonable so will update once done. Bet they will sell me their services and this n that but we shall see.

Thanks

Thanks for the info as i am going to get a new set of tires soon. I still have not decided which one to get but will search an older thread about the tires. I hope I can get accurate information of tire comparisons. I want to know what the "B" tire is that came on the car.??
