06 Continental humming!!

Good afternoon everyone! First post here! Story time:

Have an 06 Continental Mansory Edition. About a year ago, i noticed a slight humming coming from the drivers side of the car, more specifically from the door, steering wheel area. Last time i took the car into service, the dealer informed me that this noise was not normal and recommended we look into it. They ran a smoke test, and basically they told me they found that the Main Vacuum Junction Block, has a slight crack in it. Causing the vacuum boost pump (located behind the steering wheel in the engine bay) to run constantly.

Now of course the dealership wanted a good chunk of money to fix it. So my question is has anyone out there ran into this problem with their car. they informed me the ONLY way to fix it, was to drop the engine from the car. Now, the car being 7 years old, IF i didnt want to fix this and that vacuum pump were to give out what sort of problems may i run into? The dealer told me such systems has my brakes, and turbos feed off these pumps. Trying to look at all aspects of this and get the best info i can. Obviously want the car safe as possible, but trying to get all my facts straight before i drop down some money.

Thanks in advance, i appreciate all the help i can get.

ok this is a common problem and yes you will eventually start getting fault codes and the check engine lite will illuminate. the vacuum pump running constantly is not going to help pump life and you could lose braking efficiency if pump burns itself out. unfortunately for you 06MY cars do require engine out because late 05 they started running the vacuum lines on the transmission, early cars you can do it without engine out. let me know if you need someone to do it for you ,i used to work in california and may be able to help.what price did dealer offer ?

Hey! thanks for the quick and helpful response! I would be interested in some help. The dealer quote was around 6k. i am in Southern California, orange county to be more specific. Do you have anyone around this area that has done this type or work before?

Thanks for all the help.

ok,did not know your name so when you call my friend in palm springs ,tell him peter recommended them ,they know me really well . it is still going to be about 4k but you can iron the details out. it is quite a job getting the engines out. i have called them and they will look after you. ask for Ludwig . they can also pick up and deliver for you. 760 327 3610..is the number .. hope this helps.

why not just replace the hose with the updated part that does not route over trans. just a question. my pump used to run every time I hit the brakes for like two mins. now it does not run at all I assume its burned out. no problems with brakes but bad idle when cold. gives purge valve code. and REALLY bad fuel consumption.

yep,you can also just try and fix at the T piece where it splits, depends on the fix you want and how bad the hoses are. i always figure that people want the car fixed to factory standards, we used to repair the hoses but found after a couple of months and it had split somewhere else. then customer wanted it fixed for free !!

I was thinking that a updated part could be used that would not require engine removal. or the part they used in 04 ? so I was wondering if that part can be used. so far as replacing the part with the same one the new part will do the exact same thing (split) so I would consider repairing it first.

no the new pipe has been updated, the problem with the early pipes is that they had that hard plastic sweated onto a metal fitting, they now use a plastic style fitting,if you can pinpoint the leak and can reach it yourself i too would do a temporary repair if it was my car,i know where it normally leaks but we did find on a lot of cars it started to split in the central area by the trans as well ! it all depends on how handy you are ,it does require removing a lot of suspension components just to do the repair. if it was me offering to do the job i would offer the options .
