No Volume / Speaker With Nokia Phone Fitted?
#16
Hi all
My new to me 2005 CGT has the phone option fitted and had a cradle on the arm rest to take a Nokia phone so I bought a working (have tried it away from the car) 6100 model and it charges in the cradle but when I make a call from the car it rings but with no volume / speaker.
Has anyone had this, am I missing something? The phone connects but they can't hear me, I can't hear them nor can I hear it ringing.
Thanks
Carl

Privacy phone handset - To initialize
Note: This procedure will need to be carried out when fitting a new privacy handset or for transferring a privacy handset from one vehicle to another.
Important: Ensure the privacy handset is switched off before initialization.
To turn the handset off put the handset into an un-powered cradle. After 10 seconds the handset emits an audible "beep". This beep means the handset is off.
The cradle is un-powered when the ignition is off, the key is out of the ignition and the mobile phone has been removed from the telephone cradle.
1. Ensure all doors and windows are closed and the ignition is switched ON.
2. Ensure the mobile and privacy handsets are fitted in their correct cradles in the vehicle.
3. Press "MUTE" button for between 3-4 seconds.
4. Ensure a 2 second beep is heard from the privacy handset to confirm the process has started.
5. The initialization (mating) procedure will take less than 3 minutes.
- A long beep (2 seconds) after approximately 30 seconds indicates success.
- A short beep (1/4 second) after 3 minutes indicates failure.
6. if the initialization procedure is unsuccessful, re-cycle the ignition and try again.
- Check the original privacy handset has been switched off prior to initializing a new privacy handset.
Note: Privacy handsets can be checked by making a phone call on the mobile phone. The vehicle speakers will mute when the privacy handset is removed from the cradle and the telephone audio will be heard on the handset. Replacing the privacy handset will switch the phone audio through the vehicle speakers.

Thank you, will the system not use speakers/mic if the privacy set doesn't work? Could that be the problem?

I opened the armrest top, removed the privacy handset. Then used the up/down guide tab (that the privacy handset sit on) as a place to pull up. The back popped first and the front popped out. Then you can see the connector.
I just disconnected it, wedged it back so the little cover would fit. Put everything back down, put the privacy handset back... Closed everything up.
Tested, works.
Hope that helps.

Great Instructions. Thanks. It is worth adding that the clear cover is in the base of the "shoe" at the back underneath. It is not that easy to see unless you leverage the shoe back (like lifting the armrest).

to get at the plug first remove the privacy handset. You will see a "floating" panel that the privacy handset plugs into (i.e. it moves up and down allowing the privacy handset to be lowered so the armrest lid will close). This floating panel has male electrical pins that the privacy phone plugs into. If you insert your fingers under the electrical pins, you can get a purchase on this floating panel. Since you are pulling up, you will not feel any float and you can get a good grip under the panel. Since this panel is towards the rear of the compartment, pulling up on it will release the tray assembly first from the rear and then you can pull up the front to release the entire tray which includes the floating panel. As you release the tray, the wire connecting the privacy handset will remain attached (be careful). By tilting up the tray with the front end highest, you will find a clear plastic tab at the bottom of the base of the tray. The clear plastic tab pulls out and you will see the white connector. Simply pry up the connector slowly until it releases.

To add further clarity, you will see the words "PRIVACY HANDSET ONLY" on the tray (once you remove the privacy handset). Immediately to the rear of this lettering is the floating panel (it's like a diving board). Place your fingers under the diving board (not under the male electrical pins that I referenced in my previous pos t) and pull up gently.

Awesome, does yours have the voice activation option working? I am trying to determine if mine came with that option or if there is just something not configured.

I can't figure mine out. The Nokia will ring through the speakers if I call it, but I can't answer the call with the steering wheel button.
I still get phone not available on the display screen too.
Les.
