Sat Nav / Infotainment Display Self Dimming?

Hi all

Is the sat nav / infotainment display screen a self dimming unit? I ask because some days it seems very dull, hardly readable in fact and other days its very bright and clear. I haven't taken note of if its different menu's or not but as i drive in nav map mode i find that very dull, most of the time. That includes the menu buttons within the display, up both sides.

Is this a function of the system, i cant see it anywhere in the owners manual?

Thanks

Carl

I believe it is self-dimming. Unless I am pointed into the sun when I first start driving, it takes about 7 minutes to go bright. If I point into the sun, it goes bright within 2 minutes. I'm not showing any error codes (VAS 5054A diags) so I assume this is the nature of the beast.
