07 vs 09 Continental GT
Hi all, have spent the last several weeks obsessing about my upcoming purchase of my first Bentley, a used Continental GT. I am super excited.
After a nationwide search, I thought I had settled on my car: a white, Mulliner spec, 2007 GT with 39,000 miles, Mansory body kit, iPod control unit, custom wheels, etc for $77,500 in Florida. Inspection done and car is pretty much mint except the front brakes/rotors will need to be replaced in the next 5,000 miles.
About to pull the trigger when my last cars.com search pulled up a black, Mulliner spec, 2009 GT with almost 80,000 miles just up the street in LA, for a shade under $80k. It has an even more beautiful linen color interior, massage seats, Naim premium sound, reverse camera, adaptive cruise control, loaded, one-owner with clean CARFAX.
The 2009 has a few model year upgrades over the 2007 including improved suspension, steering, and cooling systems; curb weight dropped 79 lbs; trip computer/Bluetooth/dashboard clock revised; sat radio standard; slight exterior styling changes; cabin tech upgrades.
All that is pretty sweet, but 80k miles is a lot of miles... and this is a car I'm hoping to keep a while. If the inspection on this one comes up clean, what do you think, a really nice 2007 with 39k miles or an even nicer 2009 with 80k miles for the same price? Input appreciated.
Thanks to all! Love the forum!!

Wow, that is an interesting situation. These cars are built very solid and if the 2009 80K miles car has all up to date service I'd offer $75k max. The 09 improvements are worth the trade-off imho and the GT should be good for well over 150k miles with proper upkeep. Higher miles in cars like these do not scare me and in fact you know if there were any pesky problems they would have been sorted out.

Thanks for the input! Just a follow up- went to the dealer, got him down to 76k with 1 year warranty, and he threw in a 2nd year warranty at half cost. Couldn't pass it up. It's a beautiful car, drove it home last night. Very happy to be a new Bentley owner.

Seems like a lot of cash for a very high mileage car. There was a 2006 for $77k on cars.com that had 9600 miles, perfect car fax, all records, and supposedly never in the rain, while granted the upgraded electronics are sweet, 71k miles is a lot of miles.

Congrats on a great car and realizing your dream.

Congrats, beautiful car.
I'm curious to know how the interior looks after 80k miles. Is the driver bolster worn? Any dash leather pulling? Interior scuffs?
Or does it all look good!
Also what does the warranty cover?

So, the interior looks like no one has ever even sat in the car. It is pristine. No scuffs, no wear, no nothing. It speaks either to the cleanliness/obsessiveness of the owner and/or the high quality of Bentley craftsmanship.
The warranty covers everything except the leather and the paint. It costs about $3800 per year from the dealer (I paid half that though).
Time will tell, but so far I'm very happy despite the high miles. It is an amazing car!

No wear on the drivers side seat leather? After 80k miles? I wish my car looked like that. I have put 20K+ in two yeas and i believe that I have caused some wear of the seat. How can you get in and out of a car that many times and not affect it at all?
No doubt the original owner went to great lengths to preserve this car. I have thought about getting one of those wooden ball seat covers like the Indian cabby's of NY have to preserve the seat.
