GT-c V-8 fuel economy
My wife and I too a quick jaunt Fri/Sat from Lafayette (La) to Houston (approx 200mi trip) to have the 6 week check-up done and check the torque on a couple of boot hinge bolts at Post Oak Motorcars. I ran her at an avg. speed of 82mph going and 86mph on the return trip (these are actual numbers from the trip computer...cruise was set at 98 or a little above...with right foot assist). The car averaged 19.9 mpg going and 20.1 mpg on the return. Top speeds were 110 or so but mostly at cruise set speed. I was pleasantly surprised at the economy. It was very nice to not have to stop every 200mi for petrol. I was able to scoot around the city all Friday pm and the entire day Saturday and have above 1/4 of a tank left prior to departure for home. I'm loving this car.

It's great your saving all that $ in fuel to apply to your speeding tickets. I would not have the ***** to set the cruise at 98mph for that many miles. The v8 has cylinder shut down doesn't it? I would think at some speed the car would need all eight pistons on fire to sustain speed.

It doesn't requires *****....just a lack of common sense perhaps. That stretch of interstate 10 is like the autobahn most times. It is not unusual to have to go 80+ to "keep up with traffic". I only go these speeds when I have full RADAR detection on board and traffic is light. I know detectors are not flawless but I am a bit of a risk taker. As far as the engine efficiency you are correct that it will drop fuel to 4 cylinders if not needed. I assumed that 90+ mph on a car with that big of a frontal x-section would need 8 cylinders banging to overcome rolling resistance and aero drag but I guess not. I am also curious to know at what speed the engine will need all 8 cylinders being stoked with fuel?? So far I am impressed that the touted efficiency is real and not BS and attainable only if you drove the car like a hearse in a funeral procession.

Fuel economy, from a monetary point of view, doesn't concern me. Being that this car is a daily driver and will be used as a touring car for long trips the range on a full fuel load does matter to me. My wife does not like to put fuel in a car due to the fumes so one of the rituals I have is tanking up her vehicle every Sunday. It is nice that a full tank will easily last her a week.

Actually....my previous post was all BS!!! I am really concerned about being GREEN, the hole in the ozone layer, as well as carbon emissions and global warmi...er...(cough, cough)...Climate Change.

Getting good milage is mostly a psychological gain as no owner of this car is short on fuel $. To the issue of less frequent fuel stops on touring trips this will change for you my young puppy. The old man bladder will become the new determining factor.

Oh yeah, fuel stops during long drives can be trying. The GTC is the longest range driver between fill-ups in my lifetime due to it having a sizeable tank. Worst was enclosed trailering the F2000 with the F250 as it achieved only 9 mpg. Come to think of it, you guys can blame me for massive 'climate change' and not the fact that the Earth wobbles on its axis.

OH MY.....the earth wobbles on it's axis!!!! It must be the acid rain from the carbonic acids formed from CO2 emissions eating at the earth's axis bearings. I wish I were not made aware of that "inconvenient truth" so I could go on mashing the pedal of a gratuitous, obnoxious, and wholly unnecessary Bentley motorcar without feelings of guilt and shame.
Thanks alot STEVEN

Some one accused me of not being green enough the other day and I told them I like the earth. I actually live on it.
Cows farting that's the problem. I'm eating beef for supper as my new green activity.
