Lug nut torque spec??

Took front wheel off to access the horns. Lug nuts were so tight my air impact wrench would not budge them. Bent a lug wrench trying to loosen them. Finally got them loose with a 1/2" drive breaker bar and socket.

Never run into lug nuts that tight. Since I have to put the wheel back on after new horns are installed I'd like to know the correct torque spec in foot pounds. Anyone know?

BTW while digging out the jack from under the spare it occurred to me to check the air pressure in the spare. Spec is 60 psi. Mine only had 32. My guess is no one has added air since the car was new 8 years ago. I suggest you check your spare.

Spec is 110 ft pound as I recall.

Thx for the reminder about the spare, mine needed a bit of topping off.

110 sounds reasonable. Thanks.

I always check the air in all my spares twice a year. I do it the day we start daylight saving time and again when we go back to standard time. But I haven't owned the Bentley long enough to have passed one of those two dates.

I started this many years ago after having a flat and putting the spare on along the side of the highway only to discover the spare was flat too!! I remind my family members on my twice a year schedule.

I got my EITIS software installed and working (a good $40 investment). Bentley shop manual instructions say 107 ft-lb. 110 is close.

Cool, glad you found the exact spec. Hate it when a mech goes wild with air tools and torques things to 130+.

Over tightening is a good way to warp the rotors.

Also there is no way I would have been able to remove a wheel on the side of the road with the tools provided in the kit. Rest assured I'm going to loosen every nut with my breaker bar and retighten them to spec.

im dealing with over tight lug nits as well. Air wrench wont move them. 1/2” drive with breaker bar wont either. Adding a length of pipe next.

Hate mechanics who fo this. No F@$* ing clue!!

I’ve had a similar experience this weekend, I also found that the previous owner hadn’t put the jack back in so now I’m looking for a new one
I thought my bolts were going to brake off before they came loose, I don’t know if I’ve done the right thing but I’ve put some copper anti seize on the threads before refitting them

I wouldn't put anti seize on mine. If you torque them to 110 ft-lbs (which i understand is spec) you shouldn't have to use gorilla force to loosen in the future. I finally got mine off but needed to aide my breaker bar with a 3’ length of pipe.

Punches to the seeds of the mechanics who tighten lug nuts that tight.
