Yep, sounds pretty sketchy. If it is advertised as "re-manufactured" it must be in "as new" condition and meet all the same inspection requirements of a new unit, otherwise it is simply "re-built" or "repaired" and you get what you get.

Arnott struts

Some years back I replaced the front struts with RMT units. They were cheaper, but what a mistake. The shock absorbers were essentially inoperable, and made terrible noises.
Others have written about Arnott struts with "rebuilt" dampers. I chose to replace the RMT struts with Arnott struts with new dampers, shock absorbers. They have worked well for the last 4 years. Arnott now offers struts with Bilstein(?) shocks. If I have to do this again, I might try them.
The job of changing the struts is not that bad. It helps to have a lift, but it is not necessary. Arnott has very good directions on their website.
