Thanks Johnny. I removed those tweeters and chscked the connection etc.

However I found the source of my distortion. A setting in the head unit, dynamic compression, was causing it all along. I switched that off and the audio is crystal clear!

 

I'm coming back for more help, I can't for the life of me find an ignition live in the boot?! Any ideas?
