Oil light stuck on GT

Oil light stuck on GT
A while back the oil level light came on .
I naturally checked the level with the dip stick .
I found this quite hard to read , it s got not marks cut in .
As you all ( Conti GT owners )know - the tip is brown with multiple serration s , the key area only about 2 cm .
Put 1 L in and closed the bonnet .
light would not go out .So I took it to a B specialist, who diagnosed a faulty engine hood switch.
Apparantly there’s some sort of interlock between the oil level sensor and the bonnet catch , the light does not go out if the car does not detect the bonet / hood has not been opened .
The tech did a temporary bypass and advised me to ckeck the level frequently because if it drops again the light will obviously come on again .
Well it has ,and I have checked the level and added a bit , but I,am having trouble reading the tip .
So my Q is - advised by the tech - replace the bonet / catch and poss via VAG com reprogram ,( unfortunately we / he did not have enough time )
or is there’s a simple fix. Like short wire or other to fool the bonet / hood sensor ? Reset something .?
Cars booked in in early May .
just wondering if anybody else has had this issue ?

Hi, very strange. My oil level light came up, after restart of the car gone then came up again without opening hood.
I don't think hood opening switch related to oil level sensor.
When you open hood does it show on dash?

Yes, the oil check light will only go out after the bonnet has been opened and closed. This is, slantingly, the way Bentley found to reset the oil check light. If your bonnet switch is damaged like mine was, then the system does not get the open bonnet signal and no matter whether or not you added oil the check light sticks on. I replaced the bonnet switch and cure it right away.

Yup just checked it , the bonnet light does not work - Tnx guys .
other 3 doors lights work .
So how easy is it to replace the bonnet switch ? Or ground it / bypass it ?
Prefer to replace given a choise .

Hi
It is not a complicated job. I had one of the earlier type and managed to replace it myself (just the microswitch). However the newer models are a different ball game and need replacing the whole primary latch mechanism.
Herewith I am sending you the workshop doc on the matter.
I wouldn't ground the wires, you will end up with a permanent bonnet openned warning light on your dashboard.

Thx
SSpeeder , that’s great forum help,
Been Googling VW / Audi forums —- it’s a common issue .
Either bonnet warning staying on , when’s its shut
Or oil light stays on after a top up .
Or both .
All roads lead to faulty trip switch .
i had a look yesterday and it seems somebody’s unplugged them -
either to 1 remove bonnet open light stuck on
2- alarm issue .
heres a copy from an Audi forum - as I suspect there must be many Bentley owners out there -same issue ?
[ It seems that for the yellow oil warning light to reset itself after topping up the oil, that the cars control unit has to recognise that the bonnet has been opened and closed. As the wires had broken of my bonnet catch micro switch, this was not happening.
I simply twisted the two wires together that had broken of the micro switch to simulate the bonnet being open, started the engine and after about 10 seconds the 'Bonnet Open' warning came up on the display. I switched off the engine, untwisted the wires and made the ends safe. Restarted the engine and hey presto - my yellow oil warning has gone !! ]

Turns out somebody did just snip the wires and by feel I,can’t find the micro trip switches .
so I removed the snipped Male plugs on both sides .
jumped the 4 wires in each .
They are numbered 1234 and 1 and 3 are same the colour so I concluded the pairing was 12 and 34 together .
started up .
Oil light went out and the bonnet open light ( for the first time in 18 months ownership) came on .
Then discontented One set of 34 , nothing
then the other set 34 the bonnet open light went out .
Bearing in mind alarm issues* seen on various Audi / VW forums draining bats when parked ,alarms activate in the night .
Iwas reluctant to replace the unit. flying spares Ł430 , E bay Ł190 for used .- end up with alarm / drain bats at parking without a trickle charger issues
so I dismantled the Male plugs ( plenty of utube stuff on VW connectors - )
fittted a pair of tails to 1+2 and reassembled it all placing the tails in a handy place for future
“ oil light ECU needs to see bonnet open signal “
It’s hiding under the corner and you can remove the air pipe easily to pull it out after snipping a tie wrap
The cover plate on top of the rad comes off easily
New tails to 1+2
yellow connector is airbag sensor — disconnect that and the airbag light comes on ( don,t ask how I know that )
RHS ( looking back ) bit easier to get at .New tails to 1+2
Just taped over the wires and tie wrapped up away from the fan and poly belt .

Hood light Won’t go off on 2007 Bentley GTC
Sorry if this is a really stupid question. My hood light won’t go off and I try the WD-40 trick with no luck. Has anyone tried to disconnect wire three and four? When they talk about jumping the wires are they talking about connecting both wires to one? Does it have to be done on both sides? Thanks in advance
