Door lamp replacement 06 FS

Hi all, I've recently picked up a set of 4 door lamps that project the Bentley logo. Reading another thread, it's supposedly a 3 minute change of lamps, but I can't seem to pry the existing ones out without damaging the leather or worse. Is there any suggestions that someone has in using a specific tool, etc, to get the existing lamps out from the bottom of the doors that won't case the same damage that my flathead screwdriver has already caused?

Photos would be much appreciated as well.

What size is he flat head that your using? You don’t need anything bigger then eyeglass flat head to get it out. You may make a small mark on the leather but nothing to be mad about. I used a nylon dash tool to do mines. IIRC one side has a small space on the light almost telling you “pry here”. I may be getting it confused with my wife’s car. But it’s literally 20 second a door. Be careful tho....those lights get hot quick!

Thanks for the reply. I tried both a 1/2" or so flathead, as well as a tiny sunglasses flathead, but both gave more resistance than I would prefer. I can try to put something flat under the leather to pry off of and try again. If there's a spot on the side of the lamp, I'll look a bit closer and see if I can find it.

Does anyone happen to have a mechanic's manual that might show the best way to get the light off? I'll wear gloves as well in case it comes out hot.

Small 2 to 4 mm flat inserted at the rear edge only .
They rotate down about 1 cm then you pull them back .
The front (door hinge ) side has a tab so won’t drop down .....don’t pry from that side .........pry rear side only .

I,ll post a pic later .

Pry from the back of the lamp ( the end furthest from the door hinge ). 1/2 inch is a little big, I used 1/4 inch and once you get that back edge to drop ever so slightly, then use you fingers to do the rest, that way nothing will break. Wiggle it side to side gently while pullung away and downwards, once youve dropped that back end out a little. Its worth persisting with it, youll love the new logos.

Worst case scenario, you break the existing ones (which you wont)...... no problem, you have a pair of new ones to replace. Good luck

They are called “ shadow lights approx $10 on eBay

Pry from the rear

See the front tab under the connector .....so front pry will not work .Rear only and rotate it down a bit to pull back and ease it past the front

Yep...it’s the back as I said side. But They are spot on.... I had a little problem with mines not seating how I likes so I took a hot glue gun and put a few dabs on there and held it in place for a few just to be sure.

Perfect, thanks everybody, and the pictures really help as well. I'll look to use something like a 1/4" head and shimmy it a bit so that I can get my fingers in there to wiggle it out. Looking forward to some aftermarket bling!

Shouldn’t have to use your fingers bro. Once that back side comes down, it just falls out.

On a side note. I had this metal like bar or something in my door so when I went to put my lights it, it touched it just a hair. That’s why I put the dab of hot glue on mines.

This jogs my memory a bit: Some time ago I replaced a missing curb light in the driver's door of my 2006GT. The first intended replacement light(s) I bought on-line really cheap... like two for <$10 delivered. As I recall they were advertised as being for "Bentley Continental & VW various(?)". When the light fixtures arrived I proceeded to attempt to install one in the door and with some fussing about, determined the replacement fixture was "too tall" to fit in fixture well in the bottom of the door. I seem to recall I swapped one of the same style fixtures out of the trunk (boot) lid. I later sourced the correct size and such same-same fixtures and set things right... but I'm wondering if your observed metal bar or something isn't a left-behind metal cover from a past fixture?

Nope. That thing is solid. Runs as far as my fat fingers would let me feel on the inside. It’s definitely part of MY door. My new lights were taller then the OEM ones by a hair. I think I posted a side by side on here on an old post.
