Weird about the C / F switch not working. Is there possibly a reason there is an extra C behind the two in the menu? It is almost like it is there to note that this is specifically a Celsius version, and not one where you can switch between the two.

I know all about lacking customer support from China. I have been purchasing goods from China (personal and business) for 15 years, and the customer support is usually never quite up to par. It is generally not due to their lack of trying but due to the translation differences. Sometimes when they can't understand a question, or if they can't answer it properly in English, they will refrain from answering, because they don't want to be liable for saying something completely wrong.

Anyways, I'm about ready to place an order for one of these, another fun winter project for my new Bentley, but I just wanted to doublecheck that it uses its own GPS and navigation signals? The Alpine CD/DVD-player that came with the Bentley is not used at all? No original region settings from the Bentley are used for this head unit? What about the FM band, does it use its own radio receiver/mast? (Mine was imported from Japan, hence the questions...)

It uses the FM antenna from the car. I was planning on using the Bentley GPS antenna and even bought a short coax to Farka cable for the connection only to realize the Bentley GPS cable terminates in the glove box. I used the GPS antenna that came with the unit instead and it seems to work fine.

I'll have to check my settings screen, but I don't think mine had the extra C league like Neil's photo.

The person I was talking to via chat seems to have duplicated the inability to change it so who knows if it is being worked on or not. I can live with it as Celsius.

Thanks!

Speaking of being worked on, are you able to update the firmware/etc if they improve the "operating system"? If so, do you know how that is done?

Edit: The reason I ask is because if you ARE able to update the system somehow, if you are able to get in touch with the right person, they can probably fix the C / F bug pretty easily.

I am not sure where the updates come from at this point. The seller in the chat has asked for my email, but I have yet to see anything from them so I don't know exactly what they were trying to send me. I have been searching for community support, but so far haven't come up with anything specific. There are a number of forums that support the PX6 version of these android units, but from my MCU version it looks like the Bentley models are "HYI".

Neil, has your unit been upgraded to OS 10? I think I remember from your video that you were on OS 8 when you bought yours a while back. Mine (from the same seller) came on OS 10.

I have a similar android unit in my BMW and the community support is awesome, but I did buy it from a Canadian company.

A friend of mine just put an android unit in his Toyota Tundra and pointed me to the Facebook group "Tesla Style. Firmware and HeadUnits". The guy there (Sergey Kozlov) apparently does custom MCUs for these units, but I haven't reached out to see if he supports our Bentley unit version.

I just noticed that at the top of Neil's video (
), it says "78' C", as in 78 degrees Celsius. That seems quite warm for a regular day in May.. heh

So there is obviously some bug there between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

I have decided to go ahead and purchase this unit for X-Mas and install it myself, along with the help from my uncle.

I love the response I've received in this forum thus far, you guys seem great, and I want to contribute to that. I'd like to create a video tutorial or a DIY picture gallery that shows what we did to replace the original factory head unit with the new "Tesla-like" unit. I may also purchase the rearview camera since my factory camera is horrible and shows 2 square feet of blurry pavement below the back bumper. 100% unusable.

But, does anyone have instructions on how to remove the original center frame and head unit? With locations of all the clips, etc? We're pretty technical, my uncle has worked on a lot of cars in his days, but I don't want to do something stupid to my new Bentley if there is an available guide to assist me.

I found a video on YouTube to remove the dash pieces. The rest of the install is plug and play. I did purchase the Pyramid High Low-Level Impedance Adaptor Neil mentions in his video to increase the volume, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet.

The real fun for me is going to be installing that rear camera since mine didn't have one to start.

Mines didn’t come with a camera either but once I took one side of the rear seats out and already had the radio out and trim pieces, it only took around 10 mins to run the wire and mount the camera.

Where did you mount the camera? To mount it above the license plate, it looks like I will have to remove the bumper to get the wires to it. I briefly considered drilling a hole right under the logo on the trunk lid for a flush mount camera (and better viewing angle), but the thought putting a hole in the trunk lid was too scary.

I did connect the camera to the unit and tested how it would look above the license plate (it's very low). It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

My camera is in the license plate holder itself, that worked out perfectly fine. It's not mounted to the car, it's just a license plate holder with a built-in camera. Makes things easy.

Right above the license plate. I drilled a small hole and filled it with some clear caulk. Running the wire wasn’t bad. I just zip tied the camera wire to the PDC wires and ran it into the trunk then to the front of the dash.

My '07 GT seems to have an original camera, and let me tell you about this worthless piece of $h!t. It is located on the bottom of the bumper facing downwards towards the ground. If someone stands directly behind my car and moves their feet under the bumper (like how you motion newer vehicles to open their trunk automatically) it will sometimes register a blurry foot. 100% garbage.

On a brighter note, I purchased the same screen from AliExpress that Neil & others on here have bought, with Android 10 installed, and the seller was kind enough to throw in a HD-quality rear view camera for free. So there's always some negotiability, for all of you who haven't pulled the trigger just yet. But like others have mentioned, they're definitely not great at communication...

Oddly, those cameras are super-cheap, like $15.00 for a perfectly fine backup camera. I had no idea.

Same thing with the hand-free microphone, they're around fifteen bucks.

I had no idea either. Other sellers were asking 95 USD for the camera, so I figured it was a nice gesture. I will obviously check the image quality before I take the time to route & mount it..

I took the plunge and had this fitted. In a nutshell, I love it. For the very first time I started to enjoy music as I am able to access Spotify and add a pen drive with my music collection inside. There are however 3 recurring issues that are bugging me:

1. The time somehow drifted to another time zone despite me setting for the time zone where I am located. The menu has 2 options i.e. either use Time zone or just the Time setting but no matter which one I used I have to regularly reset the time. Just FYI I have yet to insert a SIM card because I don't fancy exposing myself to this Covid virus if possible. I am using my phone's hotspot at the moment.
2. There is 'usually' no last-used aircon memory (it does remember the last-used setting occasionally). Sometimes it opens all aircon vents as default and I am then unable to control the buttons that are available to me eg recycle air button, in which case I am then unable to cool the car appropriately.
3. I suspect this is a function of my tinting.....the GPS antenna takes a long time to 3D fix. In general I have to drive 5-10km before I get a GPS fix only after which I can use the navigation app.

The seller (he obviously imported the unit from China) told me there is no firmware upgrade hence I am at my wits end how I can solve the above issues. I wonder if any of you who has fitted this display unit has similar issues too. If so a solution to them will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
