2011 GTC Power seat issue recline only
I tried to recline my passenger side seat the other day and it would move recline. It moves in every other direction just not recline. I tried my drivers seat and same deal. Seat moves in all directions except recline.
I can’t imagine a separate fuse controls recline and that would also be a separate relay for recline function. Anyone have a suggestion.

I believe you meant to say that the seat "would (not) move recline" in your first sentence.
So tell us if you move either seat's backrest to a forward un-reclined position, can you then recline each back to the normal driving position, I am thinking, and this is just off the top of my head, that if both seats behave in this manner, does the convertible have a safety switch/micro switch somewhere for when the rear seat wind/air screen is in place, therefore not allowing the reclining of either seat.

You are correct, it is supposed to read “Not recline”
Ive moved both seat backrests to forward “not reclined” and no nothing. I’ve inclined the backrest of the passenger side fully and now it’s stuck.
ive checked all fuses again and all are good.
I did see a video on YouTube about recalibration seats with Vag-Comm. i assume its with Ross Tech. Any suggestions

Have you had any issues with the batteries at all ?
Have you tried removing both negative cables from the batteries for a reset, after you will need to readapt the windows and seats, no tools needed, just putting the windows up and down in a sequence, same with the seats.
As to the Ross-Tech, yes, it is a great tool to have, as is the VAS 5054, with the RT you would get seat fault code, clearing of fault code, switch testing etc.

Thanks Johnny
are there any other concerns that come along with disconnecting the batteries? If not I’ll try that today.
what are the differences between the two tools. The Ross tech costs $449 bs under $100

You did not answer as to any issues with the batteries at all.
Also I do not understand "bs under $100"...

I’ve had the car since early January no issues with batteries since ownership.
bs should have been is. My iPhone changes words automatically and my eyes are not as good as they used to be
there is a fairly large difference in cost between the two units. Does one have an advantage over the other

Hi Gillis,
If you look at the thread under yours there is a fairly detailed discussion on a problem I had with my GT, and turned out to be a faulty control unit. The unit sits under one seat (the RH drivers on my UK car).. It could be a similar problem, who knows..
Good luck!

You are correct it could be the modules, but as there is a module under each seat, it is very odd the each module under each seat would fail for the same issue at the same time, even having the same recline switch fail for reclining at the same time would be odd.
Lets see what after a battery disconnect.
Gillis,
Can you tell us the age of the batteries, are they the originals, 8-9 years old ?

I disconnected the batteries for about 20 minutes and no change. Doing it again for longer time.
Also noted the traction control light is now on and won’t turn off if button is pressed.
The battery on the left (facing back of car) is an interstate 49/H8 the one on the right appears to be Original as it says Volkswagen original batterie. The one on right has one of the green eyes that glows when battery is bad. This one indicates batter is fine.
don’t see a date sticker anyplace on either and don’t want to move them unless I need to replace. The

Next I would get the Ross-Tech for a scan of the seats, what is your location, so if someone here is close to you to maybe help with a scan if they have the RT.

Problem solved but not entirely sure how I rectified the issue.
I left negative terminals off both batteries overnight (approx 24 hours). Put terminals back on and started the car. This did not resolve the seat issue.
I then moved seat all the way forward and then backward the. Seat all the way up then all the way down. Still nothing.
I then moved seat lever forward to allow someone in back seat so backrest was in most forward position. Then I moved seat all the way back, and lowered it as low as it would go. Then moved seat lever back as though in normal driving position. At this point the recline button started working again.
So seems there are some odd quirks with these cars. Very happy to have my sweets in comfortable position again and likely will never touch them again.
thanks for all the suggestions and help
BTW I am south about 20 miles of Boston Ma if anyone is in the area.
