Ive always assumed it was a cover for the tow point, however after removing the cover, I discovered this.....

Is it the forward sensor for the cruise control ? Mercedes call it “ distronic “
Keeps the distance the same between you and the car in front if cruise is set .

Could be ??? But God knows how it can "see" through the black plastic cap.
It does have Adaptive Cruise Control for sure
