My Ben Hur Install

I can't find my pictures readily, but the ski pass-through is the only place you can fit a subwoofer. My shop has done several, they take out the leather piece and the plastic locking door, then cover it with acoustical cloth. Behind, they build an enclosure and mount the amp to the side of the enclosure.
I went too small, with an 8" woofer, should have done a 12" or 10", I blew it out, I'm going to replace it this summer when I head back to the city. Mine crackles at high output now.
I put luggage in my trunk (boot?) all of the time, the enclosure doesn't cost that much space at all.
You can also just buy an enclosure, speaker and amp off of Crutchfield and save a bunch of money, gotta have the input though.
My only irritating problem is my microphone. Apparently it sounds terrible, I can't tell because I've never heard it. They wired in the house mic, I've been meaning to buy a new one and see if that solves it. The Ben Hur doesn't have a built-in mic does it?

I will add it to the list of things to do I would be thinking 8-10", I've run the RCA and remote wire already, just need to get my workshop sorted out before I start taking things apart. I don't mind doing some custom work, this is my Unimog cab set-up, whilst nowhere near Bentley standards, it worked out pretty good.
I was told my microphone setup is great, I used the one the came with the Kenwood, and took out the OEM one, and glued the Kenwood one in at an angle pointing towards me.

Iain, from doing a quick google search, that part number fits 2003 - 2010. Take a look...

Thinking of going with the Kenwood 12" sub and matching x502 monoblock amp that goes with the Kenwood headunit.. It has a very shallow design, Sealed box volume 22.6liter Sealed Box Dimensions (trapezium shape) 773 x 362 x 107 x 172mm (WxHxD1xD2). Anyone got any experience or comments on this?

Next stage of my sound system has finally arrived. Just have to decided whether to go seal or ported. I'll put the speaker in the middle of the box, and do something similar to the OEM Naim installation.

Very nice. I didn't pay attention to my installer, who put an 8" in instead of your 12".
After heavy use, it now crackles at high volume. When I spec'ed it out, I said, "I'm not a Baller, I don't need to set off car alarms."
Little did I know, I did in fact need to set off car alarms. I'm still 17 years old I guess.
I went back and said, "Ok, design me a thumping' bass upgrade", he came back with a $2,000 quote and I lost interest. I'm already into this thing for $7k and as I've mentioned, I don't get $7k worth of sound out of it.
I'll probably just upgrade to a 12" and leave it at that. Haven't driven the car in three months, so nothing urgent.

I went with the 12" sub because of what you said about yours not having the power. A 10" required a bigger box, this one has a very narrow box which looks very similar to what Andy has in his GTC. It was also only AUD$450 with the monoblock amp.. Add another $100 for material and carpet etc and I should be set. I'll see how it goes before I change any of the OEM speakers, I think if I set the headunit to let the sub handle most of the bass, the OEM speakers may be OK.
I'll have to figure out how to get the boot unlocked with the sub in place - how do you reach the emergency lever?
