My Ben Hur Install
#46
Subwoofer install is all done, and I am pretty hapyy with the result.
I made a cover out of MDF for the ski hatch hole.
I bit of black paint and some mesh cloth I stole from my wife's material collection and it looks pretty good. It is a very tight fit, so no need to any screws to hold it in.
If I was doing it again, I would make the bottom curve line up with the bottom of the speaker, but you can't see inside anyway, unless you shine a light in like this.
I got some very similar carpet material, not an exact match, but pretty close. Real Beluga carpet has to be imported from the UK, and I am not patient enough to wait. If I get down to a wreckers with a Bentley, I'll have a look to see if there is a boot carpet and then make a matching panel, but to be honest, you can't even see the sub from standing outside the car.
All in all I am pretty impressed by the BenHur unit and the Kenwood system. It really needed the subwoofer for my taste in music.
I tried it with the armrest up, and I could hardly tell the difference, the bass seems to come from the entire back seat anyway, and it will give an rear passengers a bit of a massage it I play it loud, and the system is very loud.
With all the sawdust gone, you would never tell there was a 12" subwoofer in the car. the bottom of the box is only 220mm thick, so I have lost a bit of boot space ( an no ski hatch) but I think it will still fit a a body or two in it.
I did discover where the results of the blocked hoses went - the boot has had a fair bit of water in it at some stage. A bit of washing and it all came good, and I sprayed a bit of Lanotek into the wheelwell to limit any future rust problems.

Careful…you've had water in your boot, I can tell. In my car, the installer found 1" of water in there, they had left it out in pouring rain for two days. It ended up being the rubber insulation around the trunk lid. But that brown stuff screams, "Water!" and that's a bad thing.

Yes, the water came from the drain hoses from the spoiler panel being loose and kinked from what I can tell. The boot lid panel was wet and had some old water damage as well.

I bought some 6x8 speakers to fit the front of my BGT, but whilst they are the same height, the basket is too wide to fit in the hole. Not keen on cutting any of the panel away given it holds the window track. Not big deal as I fitted them in my truck instead Looks like I'll have to go with the 6" splits - seems the Focal's are the way to go.

After looking at the options, I've decided to try another one in the JBL series - seems like they are pretty good in the bass department, which is what I am addicted to
Giving these a go, if these don't fit, my wife's car is getting an upgrade

Hi guys. I have a 2007 Bentley Continental GTC. I have had the Ben-Hur upgrade for a couple of years and I was using an Alpine radio. I changed to a Kenwood DNR876S radio because the Bluetooth volume on the alpine was so low that I could hardly even hear who I was talking to on the phone. I adjusted the dip switches on the back of the Ben Hur for Kenwood radio but now my steering wheel controls don’t work. I rechecked all the wiring and everything is fine. As for the steering wheel harness from NAV TV that connects to the back of the Ben Hur, I did not use the black3.5mm jack wire and plug because it says not to use with the Kenwood but to use the blue wire instead. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be?
Also when I plug my phone into the usb and Apple car play comes on, I lose the speakers in the car and I can only talk on the iPhone through the speaker function on the phone itself.Does anyone know if that is normal?
in addition, when using dictation to type on iPhone it goes to Siri instead and then you close Siri and reopen dictation and it works but always shows a pop-up on the Kenwood radio. Does anyone know how to eliminate this and make dictation alone just automatically work?

Sometimes these Ben Hur’s are not as reliable as I would want them to be. British had to replace his and my right side goes out every blue moon ( I have to “hit” the side of the lower dash and it might come back on. And I soldered every connection). My next move will be to bypass any audio that has to do with the Ben Hur. Hopefully you can just unplug/pull the fuse on the back of the Ben Hur as a hard reset and it works again.
Make sure all of your connections are solid!

I have just got the Ben Hur and it arrived in Thailand ready to be installed, I am wanting to pair it with a Pioneer head unit (Pioneer DMH-A5450BT). Taking the old head display out and cd player has been done as the instruction manual was clear enough. But i am having problems linking or understanding how to connect a pioneer head unit to the Ben Hur. Does anybody have pictures or a more comprehensive guide of how to connect to each other. It will be greatly appreciated.

i got fed up and decided to put my old alpine unit back in but now the volume control on the steering wheel won’t work with that one either when it has for the past couple of years. The dip, switches on the benhur are all four down and I am using the 3.5mm jack. Any ideas?

I don't have any advice; I had a lot of trouble with the Ben Hur, the first one detonated and was unserviceable when I sent it in, they sent me a replacement unit (which I suspect was a warranty return or something) and I had to thump on it to get it to play the right channel. I changed radios from Alpine to Kenwood, no fix, then a cable, then finally something that the radio shop and the manufacturer replaced, a filter or something? Anyway, it works great now and I think I have a good solution. It took a while, I was ready to throw it away and get the Tesla-style one, but that was just too sketchy for me to jump into (I would have if I hadn't already spent $4k on the Ben Hur and radios and shop costs).
My final system has all 10 Bentley speakers replaced with Focals, all running though the factory amplifier (aftermarket ten channel stuff was stupid expensive) and a big amp for my subwoofer in the trunk feeding through the ski pass-through. I think I probably have $9k into this stupid radio setup, it's still not quite as good as my wife's Cadillac stereo, lol.
But I needed it and I like it and that's all that matters.
Techwise, I think you have a misconnected cord or dipswitch. My volume buttons work fine, but nothing else does. Maybe I'm wrong, I think something advanced CD tracks? Yeah the stupid Kenwood still has a CD player, lol.
I had really good luck emailing or calling the factory guy, I liked him a lot he wants his units to work.
