Bentley Forum Questions
Are there any other Bentley forums that have tech savvy members?
I would really like to find somewhere to talk Bentley repairs, as I don't plan on paying a fortune to the dealership to repair my vehicle.
Thank you

In my experience, so far, no there’s not, not even in the UK.
Part of the reason for that is, I suspect, a lack of people who have the motivation and confidence to work on their own cars.
Most owners I think consider Continental GTs to be so complex that they just don’t want to get involved.
Were they to think of it as nothing more than a Volkswagen in a posh body kit, then maybe they’d be a bit more confident, but nothing I have seen suggests that many people have that mind set.
By that I mean that many of the questions I read on here could be answered if people bothered to get a copy of IETIS so that they had factory workshop instructions, circuit diagrams and an illustrated parts catalogue.
(This would certainly alleviate HotspurGT's weekly task of posting some or other circuit diagram excerpts on to this site.)
If they also acquired one of the factory diagnostic softwares (e.g. ODIS), then they’re in a position to undertake a broad range of tasks, and consequently to engage in quite some in-depth interesting discussions.
There are also a few dozen of VW’s Self Study Programme documents that explain many of the complex (sub) systems in a lot of depth, and which can hugely aid the maintenance task, but how often do you hear them mentioned?
Given that well over 100,000 Continental GTs have been manufactured, I find it surprising and disappointing that so few owners seem to have the desire to get involved.
Maybe this will change, and perhaps there’s an opportunity for someone to set up a dedicated Continental GT owners’ techie web site…? One additional facet of this could be what I have experienced during many years of Lotus ownership, which is a repository for a shared knowledge base of parts sourcing, and the opportunity to exchange experience of alternative sources for identical parts.

I just got my GT a month ago, so far I have had no issues, but then have not driven it that much due to now working from home and being busy remodeling my shed from a photography studio into a workshop. (Just poured the concrete for the foundations for the two post hoist yesterday). I have a copy of IETIS loaded onto a computer, Ross Tech VCDS and have just bought a smoke testing machine. Already changed the infotainment system, and will be installing a subwoofer and amp this weekend. I ordered a pair of the circuit boards for the EGT sensors, just in case and will look at getting some of the Aliexpress height sensors as well.
I'd love to get some of the VW self study modules, and recommendations? I've done a search for ODIS, but there seems to be so many different versions and options, which one works?
First thing that I would like to do is to set the headlights to come on automatically as daytime running lights, done that to my Discovery and Volvo C70.

Take a visit over to the quite active VW Phaeton forum: https://forums.vwvortex.com/forumdis...hp?112-Phaeton
The Phaeton shares a lot of systems with the earlier Continentals and FS cars, so the information directly transfers to our cars (I have both a Continental and a Phaeton).

We have Johnny Hotspur, I wouldn't dismiss the knowledge on here too quickly.
But yes, I can replace rotors and bearings with the best of them, but I leave maintenance to the pros on my GT. I do feel a little bit less manly not even changing the oil, TBH

Great responses!! Thank You. I was a Cadillac tech back in the 80s and have a good knowledge of electronics and mechanics. So no I'm not worried about working on my VW.
What is the IETIS and ODIS? Where can I get them for my 2013 GTC?
Thanks all

I'm a relatively new member myself, since 10/19. I've found this forum to be super helpful and the members, especially a select few, to be knowledgeable on most every topic. My suggestion is to give the 'Search this Forum' a try. If you enter IETIS or ODIS in the search box you'll be presented with tons of info and shortly become an expert on those items. Also, for example, one of your questions regarded the 'code reader', If you search for that there's several topics, even one that says "Let's talk about Code Readers". I've learned unexpected things just perusing the contributions. good luck & welcome to the forum!
