GT cluster

Just a quick enquiry, are the Bentley GT clusters interchangeable with another used one or would it need programming?

Thanks

Hello @H-M3,
What year are you looking to replace ?
Be aware that the mileage is stored in the Instrument cluster itself, there are some issues between years 2004-10 that I have used, so be sure to get the exact matching year.
I can elaborate once you state which year.
There is no programming required.

Hi Johnny. Yes just thinking aloud as a repair here costs around £200-350 and I have seen on fleabay for some going for £200. My one is 2005, I recently replaced the lcd but still same issue. Currently left it with an electrician to look at it for me as most say it’s dry solder issues.

After new LCD. Same issue.

Well the electrician could not see any obvious issues. He refluxed the board and resoldered the Bosch chip including the lcd connector on pcb. Still same issue. Johnny can you please elaborate on 2005 cluster.
thanks

Help!

Still having issues with the cluster. Just had one of the cluster repair company look at it, they say it cannot be repaired as the say the graphics has been damaged. Could be due to current spike. So can anyone say if I can replace with like for like? Thanks

Hello @H-M3 ,
Sorry, somehow I missed your February 13th post.

As far as you current situation, and a replacement, I would go with the same exact part number that you have, and try to get the mileage as close as possible with the used unit, as the mileage is stored in the Instrument cluster itself, so if you get someone's 200,000 mile unit, that is what will show when installed into your vehicle, if you can not find the exact, I would stay in the 2005-2007 range for Instrument clusters, as I am not sure to the 2008-09, but do know that the 2010 in a 2006/7 wiring harness has issues.

Thanks Johnny, when I spoke to a sparky (audio video specialist) he was confident saying that he can move over the Bosch chip that stores all the data. Now I don’t want to do all this without being confident that it will work. I know there are companies who can adjust the mileage. I found a cheap 2009 model cluster but slightly different part number. You are saying to stick to 2005/7 model?

The part number for the second hand one is 3W0920 841E. My existing one is 3W8920 840.

I see that you have celsius for engine temp, but MPH for speed, and the second hand unit displays the same, BUT, the issue lies in the software and hardware versions, and being that you have UK model I can not give any definite answers.

Your original shows "2UK" and a SW &HW version of "06.10 and 4.5", whereas the replacement shows just "UK" and "16.00 and 10", what that means exactly, I do not know at this time.

That is why it would be best to find one closer to your 2005 model year, as you don't want to be stuck with a useless to you unit, but on the other hand you could always resell on eBay or the like, I have done that, sometimes I loose some $$$, others makeup for it...

Please also ask your sparky if he has a picture of the chip/eeprom for the data that you can share.

You can start the engine without the cluster, the immobilizer is built into the KESSY module which is under the carpet on the floorboard.

So the only purpose the cluster serves is speed etc? So why should it be a problem if one was to install a later model? Just thinking aloud.
