Key FOB
Good Warming,
I need to pick your huge brain housings. Ive got an '08 Spur, with one programmed and cut key, and I need another one as a spare/for mamma . Should i buy a used one on eBay (315 MHz w/ID46 chip or 433 MHz w/PCF7945 HITAG chip?) and a new key blade, then just have it programmed and cut at Bentley dlr., or is there work arounds that i haven't found yet but are doable? Any and ALL advice and info is appreciated. If this info is somewhere else in the forums, because i haven't found it.

Hello @Daniel 08 Speed ,
Do not bother buying a used key/fob off of eBay, a used key/fob can not be programmed to your Bentley, a Bentley key/fob is only written once, read always, meaning that once a brand new Bentley key/fob is programmed to the vehicle, it is locked to that vehicle and that vehicle only, hence the write once only, you would be better off ordering a key service kit from your local Bentley dealership by VIN, the VIN is used for the cutting of the blade at Bentley, then when the keys arrive you will need to bring your vehicle to the Bentley dealership for programming of the fobs for both start authorisation (IMMO) pairing, and remote buttons procedure, the key kit is around $600. and the programming $150-300 depending on your Bentley dealership.
Do not let the eBay sellers, or locksmiths on eBay, or online out of NY, or elsewhere talk you into their cloning reprogramming nonsense, as if you go that route, you will no longer have push button start, along with losing the keyless entry function, as the key guys take your Bentley key/fob and or a used one say from eBay and remove the guts of the Bentley fob and insert old non keyless entry/non keyless start innards from old Audi style fobs, then you would need to push the lock and unlock buttons on the fob everytime you get in and out of the vehicle, and most times you would also need to send them your kessy module also.
Now, I have programmed my new ordered from Bentley dealership keys to my Bentley, but I have the required equipment, and being that I stripped my vehicle to a bare shell, I had very easy access to the required KESSY module to get the SKC to use Ross-Tech VCDS to program my new keys, along with carprog to read the 93C86 eeprom inside the KESSY module for said SKC = secret key code.
Then, there are some who say that one can re-virginize a used Bentley key/fob off ebay by replacing the PCF7943AT chip in the fob itself, I have yet to try it, but I have a sleeve of the PCF chips and a fob to try it on one day soon.
Bottom line, if you are not into electronics, and do not have the required tools, such as, Carprog, ponyprog, laptop w/ XP/7, soldering station, and last, but nowhere least, the Ross-Tech VCDS, then the Bentley dealership is your best place to go.
Sincerely
Johnny
