2015 GT3-R with some issues

Hello all,

In a fit of irrational exuberance my wife and I decided that we needed a black 2015 Continental GT3-R. We managed to find one across the country in San Francisco.

Unfortunately the car was not treated well by its original owner and the second owner just put it in storage. As near as I can tell its been in storage for around four years.

The car was delivered to us on Saturday. While it is good shape mechanically, and drives well, the electronics are not working. It looks to me like a battery problem, but I'm not 100% sure. The dealer claims that the main battery was replaced before the car was shipped to me.

When I turn it on it has a "low battery warning". It starts just fine, but the display has a series of error messages. The traction control is off, the suspension is fixed in a high position, the windows don't go up all the way, and the MMI just continually reboots.

I am going to take it to the dealer to see if they can sort it out. I tried to do a soft reset of the MMI and a "fuse reset" to no effect. I disconnected the battery for an hour, but that also had no effect. If you drive the car for a bit the traction control light will go out, but it will come on again if you turn the car off and restart it.

Am I missing something silly? Is it a battery problem or maybe something more serious?

The car also has some cosmetic issues, but I'll save those for another thread.

Thanks.

Roger

Sorry, I wasn't clear.

The "Main" battery was replaced (the one on the Drivers side).

In which case, in your position, I would replace the other - the one on the English driver's side ;-)

In VW parlance these are the "Starter Battery" and the "Main Systems Battery".

You can check the battery for a date code and see if it really was replaced. These cars need to be plugged in when not in use so it would not surprise me if the battery is low even if newish.
Even after a new battery is installed (there is a correct procedure for doing this), you will likely get a bunch of errors until the car has been driven a short distance.
There is also a window reset procedure to follow. All can be found on this site using the search function (I would just tell you but I can't remember off the top of my head).

Looks like the didn't actually replace the battery as they said. So mystery solved.

Any idea where to get a main battery for a 2015 model?

Thanks!

Any place that sells batteries. They are nothing special. Just get the correct size and type. I think I got my last one at autozone. I put them in myself, I wouldn't let autozone workers do it.

Make sure you follow the procedure in the manual.

Might as well just replace both while you're at it. And rest easy that some of the faults you mention will clear themselves.

I replaced the batteries and it's mostly ok.

The windows seem to be working and the doors and trunk open as they should.

The low battery, ESC and suspension warnings are gone.

But the MMI still continually reboots itself. I tried the soft reset (hold down the "left right" buttons and the voice button just after turning the car on) but that didn't help.

What did I miss?

Oh, and thanks very much for all your help!

My 2015 speed has the same issue with the infotainment unit continually rebooting. It seems like it is a software issue. See if your local Bentley dealer will do a software update/reflash for you. If that doesn't work, send me a message. I happen to have a working 2015 infotainment unit (not the NAIM version) that I would sell you. Scuderia parts and flying spares have the units for about $5500 US plus 4000 deposit until you send them your old unit.

The saga continues,

The dealer tells me that the radio is broken and needs to be replaced. They also tell me that I can't replace it with another radio from a parts supplier without the "unlock code" for that radio. The parts supplier tells me that's not the case and they don't have a code and they can't generate a code if I send them a radio.

Anybody know the actual story? (Radio part number is 3W0035017Q)

Thanks again

There is no radio code, you get a new unit, you install it. The only thing that will be different will be your sirius/XM radio ID number.

Exactly...
I have worked on and tested at least 11 Infotainment head units so far, albeit all were 2004-2011 year units, and none ever locked or required any code.

Hello @rrowley ,
I have to say that the dealer is full of you know what, as I stated above, as did Pwc6t3, no code.

But also touched on the solution being a software update or reboot, as you can see in my attached screenshots below with a member here on 6Speed from Qatar, he was told by the dealership that he needed a new amplifier for his 1 0f 710 2017 Supersports, he was quoted $8000usd for the amp alone, yet the amp retails for $3338.89 brand new at Scuderia, plus another $2500 or so for labor, we spoke on the phone through whatsapp and walked through what was happening, I came to the conclusion that it most likely was not the amp, because Ramy had purchased a second hand amp and had the same outcome, no sound, so I thought it was the head unit itself, so I suggested a software update as it would just display the Bentley logo and go off and repeat, and have no sound, well Ramy had the software reset and all is up and running as it should.

So please ask your Bentley dealership to do the same before wasting your money on a new unit, worth a try.

Johnny

Hello all,

Thanks very much for all of your help, it was really great.

I just got the car back from the dealer. I managed to find a radio and it worked perfect, no codes required.

Thanks again for all the help!
