Would like to use A/S or even A/T tyres given where we live and this will be a DD....
Standard sizes look to be 275/35 R20 or 255/40 R20.
My question is could I fit 275/40 R 20? They are about 1 inch greater in diameter so I think the speedo would be a couple of % lower than actual but is there space at all ride height settings?
Hello @AlistairD ,
I will throw my thoughts out there for your consideration.
I just recently purchased two sets of
Continental ExtremeContact Sport Performance Radial Tires.
One set set was for my for my Audi A8L W12, it had the turbine twelve spoke 19" wheels from new, with 255/40/19's on them, but I picked up a set of factory nine spoke wheels in the 20" version, and I contemplated back and forth as to go with the required 275/35/20 or the 275/40/20, well I went with the 275/40/20's, they ride and handle great on the Audi, no rubbing at all, even in the lowest dynamic suspension position, as the Audi has four levels to choose from, my only issue after I installed them was the appearance, I think they look just a little to large, or balloon-ish, see pictures below.
Now for my Bentley GT I picked picked up a set of 20" wheels and was contemplating doing the same with the larger tire, but, in the end I went with the 275/35/ZR20's of the same brand, I also have pictures of them below, but these pictures of the Bentley are from before I had done the suspension recalibration with VCDS, and I still have to try again to get it just right, I will update the pictures when I get the rear were I want it.
Interesting pictures and without a doubt if I didn't need All Season type tyres due to the UK weather (or even I might try some All Terrain give the roads around me) then the 35 profiles look really good...
Itf looks like the 40s would fit ok? In which case I might be radical and try something like a General Grabber AT3 when the current tyres wear down (or maybe just a set of 19" with winter tyres...)
Having just checked (cos I'm looking at getting some A/S or winters tyres) there are winters available in the UK in 275/35

Thanks - challenge is that I'd rather not use winters so am really looking for A/S or even A/T that will work well all year round. Please let me know if you find some good A/S in a 35...

And the same, please! Not showing anything at this point, but not necessarily the best time of year. I'm toying with the idea of getting some winters in the summer, when they are cheap, then getting them swapped in November sort of time. Then swap back in 'spring'
