GT Trunk pops but hard to open

So the trunk on my GT will pop open but i need to use a good deal of force to actually open the trunk, trying to decide if this is because of bad hydraulics or maybe more electronic, anyone deal with this before?

Hello @DR3ADKN0T ,
Being that you have a 2006, don't you have power lift and close ?

Not just the power pop/latch.

If you have the power lift and close check out your motor for same.

Yes it is a 2006, so totally gonna sounds like a newb but you're saying it will auto open and close on its own? I just assumed it was a trunk pop and manual close. Maybe issue with motor or battery?

Just pop off the carpet cover on the passenger side trunk to expose the starter battery, and see if you have the power lift and close motor to start with.

If you have the power lift and close, you should have/see the "Boot Close" button on the boot lid itself.

Yeah, no boot close or motor in the trunk, based on that guess I need to replace the actual rods.

Ok, try lubricant on the hinges and strut pistons.
A question though, does the bootlid stay in the fully opened position on it's own ?

They don't mention which lubrication they use in this video that I saw. Can i just use WD-40 here or is there something else i should be using?

Yeah, I've got the same question: what lubricant is recommended for the boot mechanism?

I just got a 2007 Continental GT last week. Trunk opens on its own at the press of the button. However it crashes closed at the slightest touch. Once it just slammed down with no warning. The first day it arrived, it worked as intended I believe, but now it will not stay open on its own. I got it working in one direction at least.

Hey Folks,

Mine displays the same issue as the OP. Assuming the motor is there, is there a fuse I should check?

Thanks,
Robert
