Safety Precautions and pre requisite for removing steering wheel

About to swap to a wooden wheel now that they are relatively inexpensive and see the process for releasing the clips for the airbag removal.

In addition to either disconnecting the batteries or pulling fuses, what else does one need to do before and after changing steering wheels?

I’ll be keeping the same airbag, so assuming no recoding?

Also, is pulling the fuses a better option than disconnecting the batteries? If so, which fuses shall I pull for doing the job? (06 GT)
