Garage Door Opener for older cars (Older than 2012)
Hello everyone
I recently bought a 2010 Bentley Continental GT Speed and i have been trying to program the car to open my Liftmaster / Chamberlain Garage Door without success
I contacted Liftmaster on their chat line and they informed me that the "Homelink" system in the car would not work as it was incompatible - it only works with cars 2012 or younger
(this applies to all models of car and you can check out your own car's compatibility on the Liftmaster website)
After some research, I found that I would require something called a "Compatibilty Bridge" to act as an interface between the car and the Garage door control unit
I purchased a unit called "Liftmaster 855lm Chamberlain OEM Homelink Compatibilty Bridge" for $34.95 from Amazon and it arrived today
I followed the simple instructions and I am pleased to inform you that the system is now fully operational - it only took me 20mins to complete the task
So if your car is older than 2012 and you cannot get your Garage Door to open from your car I would strongly recommend that you get your self one of these units
Good Luck

Yes, I can confirm. I have a new home with the same liftmaster that uses the new SW and the MyQ app. Agreed, that older MY cars with homelink will not program w/o the compatibility bridge. I believe you can also get the bridge at Home Depot
Even with my much newer cars, circa 2018, the linkup was difficult.
