Bentley 2013 GTC driver's side view mirror will not open
Stuck in the retracted position. When I try to "open" (extend) the mirror, the passenger side opens up, and I hear a
very faint sound (sometimes) as if the mirror is trying to open. I assume it's the motor and not a relay.
Of note, the mirror itself can still be adjusted in all directions, turn signal light works and so on.
Any way to diagnose what part is defective? Also, removal of the mirror seems like a lot labor, but perhaps
the motor is external (in the door assembly) to what I see from the outside?
Most of the part references seem to be related to the motor to adjust the various angle of the mirror, which as
I said still work fine from the console ****.

mirror motor(s)
I'm trying to find the motor for this. Are there two motors, one for the open/close function and one for the mirror tilt?
My tilt works in all directions just fine, except the mirror housing remains in the closed position and won't open. The passeenger side is fine.
I can sense the mirror tries to open (as in relay is working but motor failing).
I only see one part on Flying Spares for the "motor assembly." Does this have internally two motors? One for open/close the other for tilts?

from a VW/Audi forum
"The folding mirrors use a small dc motor for folding, a second motor for the mirror angle adjust and there's wiring for the orange led turn signals. Quite a lot of parts and wiring inside with connectors which link up with the door control module."
Talking to myself on this problem.
Can the motor be replaced without opening up the door panel?

From Flying Spares:
"Thank you for your enquiry. I can confirm that the 3W0959577 is the just the motor. The issue you have is a common fault and this motor is usually, most of the time the solution. We carry these in stock ready for dispatch."
My question now is does the door panel have to come off to replace the motor?
Anyone? Anyone?

Mirror motor replacement
My question is does the door panel need to be removed when the mirror motor is replaced?
Specifically does the motor electrical wires need to pass thru to inside the door panel?

Mirror motor
Yes you have to remove the door panel to replace the motor.
However the good news is the dealer tech advised me to manually open the mirror from the closed position as sometimes it is simply stuck. That solved the problem saving $1000 labor and $600 for a new motor.
You must force the mirror with the console switch on the extended position and with the passenger mirror open. I’m going to just leave the mirrors in the open position.

Sorry for my lack of response, very ill.
Glad you got it figured out, as I was reading from the top, I was about to tell you to give it a yank.
As far as your question about the wiring harness, I will definitely look into that and report back for future reference, I am kind of thinking that once you pop the glass mirror off, and remove some screws, you may be able to unplug what needs to be replaced without removing the door panel, I will definitely look at the spare mirror I have.

Thanks for the reply.
I have a suspicion the wiring harness is integral to the mirror motor part (at least it looks like it from the photo.
If so, it's a horrible design necessitating removal of the door panel to replace the motor.
Do let me know, thanks.
