Unhappy Boot/truck latch problem PLS advise some direction.

I have a 2007 GTC. I push the boot close button and it cycles down, pauses in the fully down position without latching for about 3 seconds the returns to the fully open position. I can manually push the boot back down but it doesn't latch and the dash cluster has the boot image in red. When I bought the car last spring I had it delivered to our house in FL and picked it up a month later but I didn't know it needed to be on a battery tender so the car was drivable but had several fault codes. I live just south on Memphis and there is not a dealer within 200 miles. I replaced the batteries and bought the Ross-Tech VCDS and got most things cleared up. Back to my current problem, last summer when I got home with the car I developed the above trunk cycling problem with the top down and was unable to put it up because it thought the trunk was open. I ordered the new latch assembly from the Bentley dealer. When I installed it I was able to get the trunk to close and latch allowing me to get the top up. the boot worked for 2-3 times and then stopped again. My alignment seems fine and it will not latch even with pushing down on the deck lid during the latching sequence. I have tried adjusting the striker (?). I don't see any faults in the software. Is there a fully closed limit switch that needs to be made before the latch will activate that is separate from the complete latch assy? I can post a video or answer any questions to help find out what to do next. I don't think buying another $700 latch is the solution. Please help Johnny!
Thank you!

trunk latch

Had a similar problem which proved to be two bolts which had loosened, nothing electrical. Latch and sensors were intact.

It actually happened twice and it was different bolts in each case.
The second time was a different place. I'm sorry I just don't remember
exactly which ones, but both were related to silicone lube loosening
the bolts. It's sort of a blur as each time I had to drive the car 30 miles
to the dealer with the top half up, very unpleasant.

Are there any other suggestions out there? Does anyone know if the is a separate trunk closed switch that has to be made before the latch will cycle to lock? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
