Maintenance and Parts - XREF

Maintenance and Parts - XREF
Hi all,
I have looked but I do not see a thread or sticky about parts XREF. So I apologize in advance if there is one and I missed it.
So if it does not exist I would like to suggest a 'sticky' that lists parts that DIY'ers have found that exist less expensively if one orders a VW, Audi, or other VAG part.
I just developed a 'rubbing' noise in the front of my 2007 GT so I will be taking it tomorrow to an indie to lift it and see what's what. I have already started looking for front hubs and cv joints.
Bentley hubs are $600 at the high end but Audi hubs that have the 'same' part number seem to go for less than $100.
My 'research' method so far is to take the 3W0 prefix and change it to 3D0 or 4E0 (VW and Audi) respectively. It is fairly apparent that the GT shares a lot of common parts with the Phaeton and the all wheel Audis.
Comments and success stories??

Hello @dangme55 ,
Sorry to say but, you can not just change 4E0 with 3D0...
The hubs from a A8l 4.2 or even the 6.0 N/A W12 do not fit the Bentley GT, nor do the front brake rotors, and or pads, the A8/L 4.2 has 360mm front rotors, and the W12 A8L has 385mm front rotors, whereas our GEN GT's have 405mm front rotors.
The front axle/cv joints are not the same either, the naturally aspirated W12 A8L uses smaller diameter axle shafts than our twin turbo GT's do.
There may be a few items, like the rear rotors of a A8L W12 to the GT as some have stated, or the steering column clock wheel that I posted on in my rebuild thread, and maybe a few more.
But as the Phaeton was a four door, many items don't work, BTTT, the seat control modules = NG, front body control module =NG, suspension cm, infotainment head unit, amplifier, window control modules, parking sensor cm, and many others equal no good, either tested by myself or others here on 6Speed.
A few things like the battery cm, the parallel solenoid switch, fuse box, relays, etc come from the Phaeton, some part may look the same or have the VW and Audi logos on them, because VW is the parent company, that doesn't mean that the parts fit or work the same.

As always thanks for your comments, always enlightening.
My intent was to get a discussion thread started where people can share what does, in fact, work. Albeit Bentley has a great mystique it is also a very low production vehicle. When I used to own Corvettes it was considered a very low production car at around 40K units a year. I think the Bentley is about a third of that number.
I have looked at a lot of the parts in the infotainment system and they are Siemens/VDO which is not to say that they are the same as the head unit in a VW etc. That said you know I am still struggling with nav upgrades and for my 2007 with the CD/NAV-CD some of the options do 'work' with VW and Bentley.
My take is that for mundane things like suspension, u-joints etc it is not likely that that a unique unit is engineered for just the Bentley. Not saying they aren't but it does not make sense to reinvent the wheel (pun intended) for mundane items. How many ways can you make a wheel bearing and tooling for parts is very expensive even with CNC.
The question is how much does the GT and Spur have in common with the A/S series Quattro drive?
As an anecdote I once sold computer 'stuff' to GM. This was back in the heavy days of anti-foreign car union bias. If you parked a foreign car in a GM assembly plant lot you were very likely to find it with 'unauthorized' modifications upon your return.
You could park an American car but if you had a GM car you could park near the door. I owned a Jeep at the time. I once joked with the security guard, unsuccessfully of course, as to whether I could park the GM parts near the door. The Jeep had about 50% GM/Harrison parts.
Just a point that most cars have a whole lot more commonality than they appear to. The Maserati Spyder I owned before the GT had a lot in common with the Ferrari 360. Not so much in the infotainment and other electronics but a lot in the 'meat and potatoes.'
Doing X-refs on parts is tedious but I do find it interesting that the SKU for many parts I have researched have the same SKU after the prefix 3W0, 4E0, 3D0 etc.
I just wonder how many of these are the same part a different SKU for the database for a given marque? IMO a lot of this is arcane and confusing with a purpose. If you can't dazzle'em with brilliance baffle'em with BS. That is an operative maxim in my former computer life as well.
Given the huge Bentley tax for some items a thread or sticky thread might be useful for things that people have found that are 'swapable.' I have used a stanton gas cap $12 (temporarily) instead of the $160 Mulliner cap and I used a $16 Bapmic vacuum solenoid vice the $90 Bentley part. In the latter case the Bapmic is of dubious quality but there is a Pierburg at about $30.
That same part is the boost solenoid part as well. So I might not be as likely to use the Bapmic part there after an engine drop but the one I replaced is on the top of the engine.
In closing it would be nice to know from people who have taken 'it' apart and put it back together as you have as to what was substituted or as you mentioned what DOES NOT work.
At the end of the day the most expensive part is the one that doesn't fit.

To answer my own question I found this thread which preceded my post.
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...iy-thread.html
I do not see the link to the pdf on @Geo3 's post. Does anyone have that pdf that they can PM to me?
Moderators any chance that thread could be moved to a sticky?
Thanks!
