gt 2005- emergency / car is dead (electricity)

guys - pls help - i drove yesterday to another city - today i went to my car in the underhotel garage and my car is dead - no power total zero.

i have the hw with me - multimeter and vcds and charger - so at least want to try smth

problem is there is a place under the hood where i can put charger but on the left i have only 4v on the right i have 8v

connected charger to a bolt with 8v - no effects - car is not waking up

i dont know if i should connect to the 4v bolt?

anyone knows the diff? one is for left another for right battery?

connected rosstech and did interface test and have no power on k-lines and it shows 4.42v

it looks like the left bolt is for the accessory battery and the right one is for starter battery.

i opened the boot lid thru emergency handle on back of the seat and voltmeter the both batteries - the left one (accessory) has only 4.4v

plugged charger to it now directly

now - smth is really worrying me - when i opened the hood i charged thru the right bolt - so i feeded the starter battrty and it was ok

but when i came to conclusion the the left bolt is for accessory battery i connected positive to the left bolt (4.4v) and the clamp started sparkling - i left the negative in the same place where it was earlier.

what is going on? i hope i did not fried anything

i will left the battery under charger whole night, will see in the morning.

question - what could happen that i drove the car without any problems, parked in the garage, closed the car as always and after one night smth consumed all the energy (as said on the left bolt I had 4v, on the right bolt I had 8v)

anyone from you experienced that thing?

John Cadillac is infamous around these parts
Did you attempt to start the car using the emergency procedure with the key in the ignition switch? That will typically start the car and begin the charging process for the batteries.

How old are the batteries? If they test good you need to look at the charging system and cables. Bad alternator or voltage regulator? In 1975 I drove a brand new Mercury Monarch off the dealer's lot and had to be towed in an hour later due to a bad voltage regulator.

starter - brand new, accessory - 1.5year.
accessory tested with tools on the battery shop - perfect condition.
i dont think it is alternator issue cause the car whole travel was ok - and electricity was there when i turned off the car - after 24 hours the batteries were depleted.

ideas what could consume the whole energy when it was sleeping?

john - what supports what in emergency on? accessory should help starter battery to feed starter motoror starter is heping accessory to feed electronics

I had a similar problem before where all the time car is dead no matter what batteries I install, apparently I had a leak, cd changer was working when car is locked and it causes the batteries to go flat
first to do I to check for any leak and you can start with pulling fuses and then use circuit tester screwdriver, I find it more powerful than digitals
also remember to check for alternator leak

hope this was helpful

@Shaqovic sure your info is super helpful, any ideas are welcome.

Guys,
let me report all my actions in order (and situation description).

before the problem:
  1. i drove about 100km , everything was fine, the ONLY issue (however maybe this is an important thing) about 5km before reaching the destination I got MIL on - I decided to continue the travel, cause I was very close to destination, and there was no communication "GO TO SERVICE" or "STOP THE CAR" or smth like this
  2. I reached the destination and did not do any scans - I decided to leave it, and look at it the next day, Ive just turn off the car, closed it thru keyless and saw the red diode on the doors that alarm is armed, and went away.
  3. next day, after about 20hour from stopping the car I went to the garage and tried remotely open the car thru RC but there was no reaction;
  4. when came closer to the car, I saw that the diode on the doors is not blinking, realised that battery depletion happened (Ive opened door thru keys, infotainment did not start, Ive put the key into ignition, no reaction at all etc)

so I started the recovery:

day1
  1. opened the hood, and checked the voltage on the connectors near plenum chamber - on left (A) I got 4v, on right (B) I got 8v - see PICTURES

  2. ive connected vcds but vcds-connection test said K1 and K2 lines are not powered - sounds like obvious if I have so depleted batteries, so i gave up

  3. Ive connected charger to right (looking on the engine from front point of view) bolt/connector (B) - no strange reactions - after 20mins, i checked what is the voltage and voltage went up to 11v, but still no effects inside the car, no lights on, no ignition on etc
  4. so i decided to connect charge to the left bolt (looking on the engine from front point of view) (A) - and here I got strange reaction - the clamp connected started to sparkling every second so i quickly disconnected it
  5. i realised that left (connector A) may be for accessory battery, right (connector B) may be for starter battery - so having this strange behaviour I did not want to risk anything and I decided to do emerg opening of the boot - did what needed, got into the boot
  6. i measured the voltage - acc battery was 4v, starter battery was 11v now
  7. I connected the charger directly to left battery - and left it for whole rest of day/night till today morning

day2
  1. today I confirmed the voltage on the left battery is 12.45, on right is 12.8 but anyway I decided to order tow-truck and they transported my car to my home-town
  2. from the noon I am playing with the car with no success - here is the story
  3. after charging, car wake up - lights visible, able to open / close doors thru keyless, when putting key into switch, the steering wheel is unlocked, when switched ignition on, all the light on the dash shows up, infotainment says "Bentley WELCOME" and pairs the key, hvac blower runs, looks like everything ok
  4. the only issue I got -that having ignition on - I clicked the suspension leveling and got no reaction, just does not go up or down, says that leveling system can not run or smth (on the dash) but it was one time, then later when the scans were done and errors cleared, there is no leveling issue message on the dash, but the problem (or maybe it is not a problem if I have car off and only ignition on) is that when I move to low or to high, there is no reaction, it always stays on low
  5. so I did not attempt to start the car yet, first wanted to check errors - connected vcds, vcds-connection test run OK, K lines powered all OK.
  6. did the FIRST run of full scanning - and got tons of errors as below <SCAN1>
  7. cleared all errors an rerun the scan - see below <SCAN2>
  8. still did not started the car, before that I decided to go thru all fuses with continuity check (beeper on voltmeter)
  9. I found out that fuse no 7 in the driver side fuse box was blown - it is 15A vacuum pump - now question:
    1. is it possible it was blown for longer period of time, or this is so important fuse that if blown I would not run / drive the car
    2. i am asking to correlate problems (when actually this could occur)
  10. I switched the fuse, is not blowing, it stays ok now (still I dont run the car)
  11. the rest of the fuses went ok with continuity check - i tested driver side box, plenum chamber and the fuses over the accessory battery
  12. so now i decided to try the START button, I switched the ignition on - all lights went on on the instruments/dash - nice car picture with opened hood, boot and driver doors, on the display, looks all ok, pressed START and all lights on the instruments go down, and on the instrument display the car picture appear but only car and odometer is visible, the PRNDS disappear and the leveling icon dissapear, the infotainment (eg. having it on AC display) also goes down - but still see graphics but the settings go away - see the PICTURES

ignition on, not yet pressed START button:

ignition on, after pressing START button, lights go off, graphics looks like this:

  13. and car does not start, turned ignition off and on, and lights go back etc - again looks ok, i can repeat this step but no run, still the same effects as in p.12
  14. i made another vcds scan after the unsuccessful START - and there is the result - <SCAN3>
  15. what i did more, was to disconnect the both batteries - and I waited 30mins, connected back, did the vcds scan, no new issues, pressed START and exactly the same behaviour,

now where I am:
  1. car does not start, with the symptoms as above
  2. i noticed in first scan <SCAN1> an evidence error of the MIL on case - see this

    1 Fault Found:
16627 - Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)
    P0243 - 004 - Malfunction - Intermittent - MIL ON
    Readiness: 0000 0000

  3. but now this error does not reoccur in SCAN2 or 3 - assume it may come back when the car will run
  4. no idea coincidence of the blowed fuse 7
  5. no idea of any coincidence of the sparkling clamp on left connector
  6. BTW: TPMS error, Driver Seats Adjustment error is something I got from the begining of owning this car.

so I listed you the whole detailed sequence of actions

anyone can help me with that?

ps. i tried 2 more times with the START button, but exactly the same result - lights go off, on infotainment display eg. the AC is presented but looks like disabled

AND i tried also the key switch LEFT and RIGHT, but I suspect I have this not working at all - I dont hear any click in the rear on this operation and this is how I have it from the beginning I have the car, this is nothing new

<SCAN1> the very first after charging batteries, when finally vcds told that OBD / K lines connection is ok

Hello @sazam ,
As far as the 2 posts under the hood, facing the engine as you said, the left post is the connection for the alternator cable, the right side post is the connection for the starter cable to feed the starter, on the back side of this junction point you will see 3 post, 2 on the left, both on the house battery circuit tying in the alternator, 1 on the right to the starter battery feeding the starter, so your connection to either one is fine, you extra spark activity is most likely because the left house battery was lower in charge than the starter battery, OR, something is on consuming power, therefore the extra arc, OR, your alternator itself may be at fault, so, being that the engine has not ran now for a while, it will be nice and cold, so with all the batteries hooked up and fully charged, reach under the vehicle and get your hands on the alternator itself to see if it is warm to the touch, meaning, warmer than any other part of the engine, if the alternator is warm or hot, it has stuck in the on position, and therefore has turned into a motor therefore draining the batteries.

I would like to know that when you charged the left (house) battery, did the right side starter battery automatically charge, or did you have to swap your charger over to it ?

As to the push button start, as the 2005 didn't come with it in North America, but I believe it did in your part of the world, please confirm that your PBS is factory, and while on the PBS, by chance did you loosen the connection on it while working on the cigar lighter, ALSO, does the starter crank when you turn the key in the ignition all the way to the right for start ?

Your batteries are still low after your charging, they should be above 13.2 volts, I see 11.8 at the end of a scan...

To bypass all items to test the starter itself, be sure both batteries are fully charged, then remove the cover of the 433 relay in the boot as pictured, and push the bottom up as shown, that is the starter relay, the engine should turn over, but not start and run on if the ignition is off.

Be sure to check all of the mega fuses on the left side house battery, as your terminal 30 has issues, check the flat blade fuses on top of the right side starter battery also.

More to come.
Very busy with work phone calls.

Johnny

hope i did not hurt anything by the wrongly assuming the left-connector is for house (i called it accessory) battery
right - i confirm, i was able to charge starter battery thru the right connector

i will go and check the alternator if it is hot

--------

regarding the automatic charging of right battery, when left was charged,
i dont think so...
when first I plugged the clamp to the right connector the starter battery was charged and nothing changed on the left connector (which as you said is wired with the house battery)
then when I reached to the boot, I directly connected the house battery, and I did not notice the starter battery was charged automatically
so early in the morning when I visit the garage/car i swapped my charger to the starter battery
finally i reached 12.8 on starter and 12.4 on house battery

------------

yes I have european model, swiss, with PBS feature from factory
I could loose smth, but i played this cigar stuff 1 day before this 100k tragic travel, and I started the car many times from the time I played with cigar with no issue
but will double check, however - still there is strange reaction of going light down when pushing it so there is connection

-------

regarding crank on turning ignition to right - you mean to try to start the car by turning the key max to the right or just when turning the key to the ON position?
Ive never tried to start the car with a key turn, I always used button - will check it if I understood you correctly (as above)

------

yes, my batteries now are loosing power very fast, actually the house battery, I connected the charger to it when i was playing with VCDS,
and anyway, having all the time VCDS in use and did few full scans in a row, then played directly with scans on addr 05, and other addresses which still had errors
suddenly I got yet another error - but pls correct me if I am wrong - this may be actually related to fact that i loaded the vcds too much and consumed too much battery during this all scanning:

@Johnny Hotspur GT - thx! i restarted the computer with other ISP, looks like my current ISP has some issues and the graphical content served by AWS is not going thru... now I see the pictures, will do the stuff you suggest.

ps. I also added the pictures on my post.

i will do the trick, but you suggest to just try it with ignition off, or try it with ignition on?

======
for this:

i just check the continuity of this blade-fuses

btw - the above is the starter battery fuse box, with starter motor fuse

and below we have also starter motor fuse, but here is on the house battery?

redundancy?

Hello @sazam ,
You can press the relay with the ignition either on or off, I just want to hear that the starter spins, and that it or it's solenoid is not the issue.

As far as the mega fuses, the house battery is on the left facing the trunk, the starter battery is on the right, the 300 amp mega fuse on the house battery bus bar is NOT the starter power cable per se, that cable runs to the parallel solenoid above the starter battery, as I am typing this I guess you have edited your comments, so yes, redundancy in a way, for when the starter battery is low or dead, the parallel solenoid kicks in and the power from the house battery is tied to the starter battery in parallel, being that you had two different voltages at the front engine area posts, I believe that your pyrotechnic positive cable on the starter battery is good, but verify that you have power on both sides of the pyro joint.

Johnny
