New owner queations
Hi guys,
glad to be here and reading through some posts there is so much great info and knowledge.
Car I purchased is an 07 Continental gt, 81k miles and has great maint/service records mostly through Bentley dealer and one indie shop. so have a couple questions….
-Which Ross-tech should buy and ease of use, I do most of my own diag and repairs.
-anything I need to address of preemptively replace? The car currently is great besides the a/c not working but that’s due to a failed condenser which I’m doing myself and was diagnosed by Bentley.
-what Bluetooth should I buy as I want to be able to play my music and how hard are they to install?

Hello @Devanwon ,
Welcome to 6speedonline !
As to the Ross-Tech VCDS, it depends on how many VAG vehicles you have, or plan to have or work on, including family or friends, as you can purchase the hardwired "HEX- V2" in the 3 VIN or 10 VIN versions, at $200 vs $300, or you can purchase the "HEX-NET" WI-FI versions in 10 VIN's at $450 or the unlimited VIN's at $650, I went for the $650 version, you will need a laptop for use, as the "Mobile" side of the HEX-NET is not fully functional with the cellphone, I can read and clear codes with the cellphone, but measuring blocks and other items do not function as they should while using the cellphone, whereas the laptop is 100% fully functional, another note to keep in mind, if your are only scanning to read and clear fault codes, you could purchase the 3 VIN version, but you could scan a thousand vehicles, the VIN count only comes into play when coding modules in the vehicles, but if you had the 3 VIN version, and you tried to code a fourth vehicle, then you would have to pay RT for more VIN'S.
As far as your failed condenser coil, I would be interested in hearing just what failed, as I have heard that a few times here and elsewhere, yet, it was never that the condensing coil had a leak, no refrigerant lost, and others after paying for the condensing coil and labor, only found that they actually needed the AC compressor instead, of course the shop or dealer then said, well you needed both...
I have never seen a non leaking condensing coil be the issue and cause of replacement, a dirty clogged (fins) yes, but still not replacement, just a cleaning.
Johnny

Thanks @Johnny Hotspur GT appreciate all the info! Great site here, looking forward to working on my cgt. As far as the condenser goes reason why it’s bad is a small rock hit it and put a hole in it.

@Devanwon if you're still looking for an answer about a bluetooth install, I think lots of people (myself included) have fitted the GROM unit.
https://www.gromaudio.co.uk/products/bluetooth-hands-free-and-a2dp-car-kits/bentley-integration-kit-1.html
This fits in place of the CD changer in the glovebox, so is simple to install and doesn't involve removing the centre console to get to the back of the infotainment unit. You just remove the CD changer, unplug it, and plug the GROM unit in its place using the existing lead that's coming into the glove box. Obviously you lose the ability to play CDs. The wire for the microphone can be routed out of the back of the glovebox without removing it or any panels, and pushed into the A-pillar, again without removing.
The SKU for the GROM unit with the right connector is GROM-BT3-VAGT-VAGT, specifying "CD changer location connection".
And the tool for getting the CD changer out is the one marked as "porsche" in this kit.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/toolzone-AU041-Radio-Stereo-Removal/dp/B00RVPP1N8
It does everything I need, ie bluetooth calls and music/spotify, except slightly annoyingly I have to remind the phone to use "GROM" every time I answer a call. But that's probably something I've done wrong.
Hope this helps,
Danny.
