Problems with Ben-Hur

I had the NAV-TV unit installed professionally in 2019 into my '06 BCGT. I have the Alpine ILX-W650 for the head unit. After sorting out the proper USB cable to attach my Android, it has worked flawlessly for 4+ years. In the past few days it has declined rapidly in the following manner. It started with the key board and the LCD screen in the NAV-TV unit going dead. After parking it over night, it all came back perfectly for about 36 hours. The next failure was the key pad and the LCD screen went dead again along with the audio through the speakers. The Alpine was still on showing all functions but no sound. Within a hour everything went completely dead. NAV-TV wants the unit back to do diagnostics on it which I am fine with. All relevant fuses are good. Does anybody think there is something going on with the car that could be causing this?

They release these without the proper field test in my opinion. And I have yet to see any software upgrades for it. I know British had an issue with his and had to have it swapped out. Mines has an issue with the right side audio. It goes in and out. If I hit the side of knee panel it might come back on. They really need a v2 of these and give anyone that bought v1 a nice discount via returning it.

Ben Hur Update

So Nav-TV put the unit on their bench and determined that it needed a new mother board, to the tune of $700. This is for something that has not seen 10,000 miles, but 4 years of installation. Their warrantee is 1 year. Total cost for this episode will easily be $1000. This is not great reliability for a system that cost $2500 plus install and the Alpine head unit in 2019.

So my thoughts are correct. I doubt they have sold over 300 of these. $700 is really an insult. $200 maybe and that’s if they have made sure all of the solder pots are done correctly AND upgraded parts on the motherboard. I’m half way tempted to put the factory head unit back in and adding some type of Bluetooth to it so I can stream my music.

It could be a great mod if they made sure the motherboard is upgraded and maybe do away with the volume limits. I ran RCA’s when I installed mine for later upgrades. I’m going to go that route and hopefully it gets better.
