I wondered about the same thing. The passenger side is 2-3mm higher than it should when the boot is closed. Nevertheless, I replaced the gas struts and the closing problem went away so now it's only a slight cosmetic issue as a fraction of a cm isn't enough to cause leaking. Fixing the alignment issue isn't high on my priority list but it would be a nice finishing touch regardless.

This is a very easy fix as your boot struts are wearing out. If the struts don't provide quite enough lift the boot will close too quickly and latch before the passenger side hinge seats completely, leaving the slightly raised corner. When the struts are severly worn everything moves way too fast and the boot will re-open again (Johnny, correct me if I am wrong here). I recently replaced the struts on '14 Speed and solved this exact problem. Stabilus makes the OEM replacement, but I purchased mine from Strut-Your-Stuff-Here and fixed the issue for less than $30: www.ebay.com/itm/39227811459. If the hinges still don't completely seat try a little FluidFilm on the hinges.
I know I'm not supposed to have live links here, but the page won't let me take it out. I highlight it, click Unlink, save and it comes right back.
Thanks to whoever fixed the link issue.
