2006 Flying Spur. Just recently the power trunk lid stopped opening/lifting on its own.

From the closed trunk lid position, it will pop open, then seems like there is force/movement down like its going to close again.. instead of it opening upwards. Trunk lid stays unlatched, and am able to lift the lid up manually.

When the trunk lid is opened by manually lifting it up, pressing the 'boot close' button on the trunk lid closes the trunk lid perfectly fine.

Could this be a symptom of needing the trunk lid struts replaced?

Or a way to reset the open/close positions or anything of the sort?

In a word, yes. I've had 1:1 identical symptoms and they went away as soon as I had replaced the struts.

Yep. You need new struts. You can install them in 15 minutes. Cheap fix!

 

Concur with Bruce - new struts will fix this.

Be careful buying them on eBay - I ended up buying and returning 4 sets that claimed they fit my model year but were 1" too long.

After ensuring the replacement struts are the exact correct length, they must also be the exact correct pressure setting else the truck mechanism can't push them down.

I'm confident Bruce has vetted his recommendation to be the right ones.

 

Interestingly, the ones I bought from Alpine directly didn't fit and had to be returned. The BOXI ones I found on Amazon worked. At least with Amazon returns are free & easy if there's an issue.

 

Hmm, I see on the parts diagrams that part# 3W5827550 is for the Flying Spur 2006-2012.

@BruceR how did you determine to use part#3W7827550/3W8827550? Which state they are for the coupe?

Alrighty, part#'s are confusing, but I shall try that Amazon link for my 2006.

Is there any how to on how to replace these? Or just by looking at it can figure it out (the car is not at my location).

There's a bunch of videos on Youtube. This one is pretty good after the first 90 secs of blather. Be sure to prop the lid open with a stick before starting!
Get a can of FliudFilm and spray all the hinge points while you're at it. Fluid film is thick and lasts a long time. If the motor is weak from age (just like me!) it may have trouble with the new struts. If that's the case, use Fluid Film on the struts too. You may find that using one new and one old will do the trick if the motor is still having trouble.

 

Exact symptoms on my 2017 Continental GTC.

Just had the dealership (still under CPO) provide the same diagnosis as many have eluded too in this forum i.e. gas trust.

They have since been ordered, all the way from the UK.
