Daily driver suggestions?

yeah.. if i get a 2001 m coupe, i will start to care about it too much and that will defeat the purpose of a "beater" car.
now... finding the right M3. this is the description of the 15K local car:

Couple other things you might want to ask for from the service records,
- Rear Trailing (rear toe) Arm Bushings. Usually start heavy wear at that mileage/age. Causes at bit of "rear wheel steering" at the limit.
- Water Pump. Its a 97 so its probably got the metal impeller but still a good idea to change. My buddy just bought a 95, and on his drive home from buying it, water pump failed on the on-ramp to the GG bridge. Along with this, good idea to change t-stat and get a metal t-stat housing (both super cheap).
Otherwise, looks good. Love Estoril.
Don't get an S54 MC unless you like your rear-ends twitchy. I had one, and even with TCK coilovers it wasn't controllable by any means. I sold my 2001 with 24K miles for $42.5K so it might be out of budget. It was a very neat car though (here's my old one below...)
$42.5k.... nuts how well those S54 clown shoes are holding their value. What was MSRP? $50k?
Funny how, with dealer incentives, i've seen brand spanking new Z4 M Coupes sell for ~$45-47k.

we have agreed on $14,750 price for that estoril M3. i think its a good price considering the miles and condition of the car. at least its a good prices compared to other cars on craigslist and autotrader.
should i get a PPI done at dinan mtn. view just for a peace of mind?

On that note, never hurts to get a PPI done.

And you're right about the E30 rear end...it was a bit sketchy in the E30 M3, which had roughly 60% of the MC's power. P-cars feel tame and predictable after owning the MC

Post some pics once you get it!

I'm not sure what the MSRP was. I was the second owner, purchased it with 7,000 miles for $33K. I wasn't expecting to sell it for what I did, but two potential buyers really wanted the car and pushed the price up big time for it.

Hell of a deal.

I am switching jobs and the new place has a somewhat ****ty parking situation. I dont want to drive either 911 or 7er to work, so i want to get a daily beater.
It has to be a small coupe. Hopefully BMW, hopefully not very old, hopefully fun to drive, hopefully something dinan has parts for and is a DIY type car. I been debating between MCS vs. 2001 M coupe.
Thoughts on those two? Any other suggestions?

put the deposit on that 1997 E36 M3. should pick it up in a few days (current owner is waiting for his new car, 535i, to arrive).
what is the best E36 M3 forum? something with less bling, but more maturity and substance?

And, hope all works out with the M3, it's a great car you'll definitely enjoy it.

M3forum.net - although the maturity isn't necessarily there, there are a bunch of people who know their ****.
