335 vs. e92 M3
#47
335i is 3600+ lbs? Are you sure? Anyone know whether it is easy to take out weight from 335i? I'm more interested in that rather than stock weight numbers as they don't mean anything. Only look good/bad in magazines and paper.

135 - 3270lbs
Ok, since you already have a GT2 then your all set for the track but there is no way in hell a moded 335i can out perform an E92 M3. Also to note a CSL will rape a GT2 on the Nurb. ring. It is quicker than a 360 stradale. Good choice on the 335i if you want an affordable car that will do good stuff in the straight line.Good luck with your 335

im positive...
heres a test on the 335 sedan
it weighs 3635 lbs curb weight (i wouldnt be suprised if a fully loaded car weighs even more as this one didnt have ALL the options)
http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...R_BMW_335i.pdf
and here this article states the 335i coupe is only 22 lbs less than the sedan
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....rticle_id=3948
that puts the 335i coupe at 3613
so yea...theyre both over 3600 lbs...

the 335i Coupe weighs -3571
the 135i Coupe weighs -3384
thats a 187lb difference. Also my sources are from both US Brochures for both cars. With that said the 1 is seriously ugly. And imo not worth the difference that weight will maybe get it .1 second faster with equal mods. Also the M3 is fatter then Both

Also a friend of mine took his stock 335 to a certified weigh station and came in alot less then published around 3420lbs I believe.Another magazine aslo publised a figure very close to that so it's possible BMW may be inflating the weight claims to mislead the competiton just as they did by lowering the actual hp number.

try telling any of the m3 forums that, theyll fight you to the death about semantics on how its 90% fuel and all this other stuff. but i agree!
the audi rs4 gained about 300 lbs going through US DOT regs and im sure the m3 will gain some weight too.

In either case, the 1-series looks to be a couple hundred lbs lighter than the 3-series, which depending on where it's lost, should make a significant difference with respect to the handling and performance.
Sure, looks are polarizing, but that goes for all Banglized cars I think.

Hey,
The 996 GT3 is very comparable to the M3 CSL. I have been to the ring many times and have raced my brothers CSL agianst a 996 gt3 numerous times. The result being is the M3 is the perfect track car for the money. The porshe 996 GT3 looks UGLY. (ugly exaust, ugly wheels, ugly wing etc.) Top gear also quoted that the csl is quicker than the Ferrari 360 Stradale. That is very impressive. The E92 will dominate the M name no matter how frikin ugly it is. I think its ugly but it is getting every car magazines thumbs up as NUMBER 1.

[quote=Spencer;1391540]You sure like to opine on the new M3 a lot before even driving one....
Anything past the E30 M3 is pretty docile in the big picture.[quote]
I seem to remember the e36 M3 evo (the one the didnt come to the states and had 321HP and was lighter) and the e46 M3 CSL being pretty wild.
I seems there has been one "wild" variant of every M Body style (none of which have come to the US). Lets hope BMW continues in making the fun M-car except this time they bring it to the states
