They're very rare, and will go up in value over the years.

+1. I raced a friend with a chipped E36 M3. He wasn't happy but I took no pleasure doing it...sort of.

It's a rare car. It's not just about performance. 993 were abundant compared to this one. does it have collectible status?

Yes, it has collectable status but the E36M3 in general was an insult to the US M community. We were fed a car designed around 320bhp with only 240bhp. Whether it was BMWNA finance or stubborn emission issues it was a slap in the face to their largest market.

Wrong. My friends NA E36 M3 hangs neck and neck with E46 M3s and me about 1.5 cars behind.

I have raced three 993s; a Turbo and then too regular 911s...The turbo spanked me hard but the others I pulled on both times...As far as i am concerned my car is faster in the twisties also, esp with the back up of a few testings from other sources backing my claims.

I recall when the car was released. Has similiar history and response by BMW crowd that the RS America has with Porsche owners. It's not the Euro M3 (as the RSA isn't the Euro RS); yes it was more expensive than the regular M3 but limited production with weight reduction measures taken (again similiar to RSA).

I was at M Fest in Greenville, SC when it was 1st released. Most hardcore guys thought it was a joke and overpriced. If I had the money and room, it would make my top 25 BMW's to collect due to the rarity.

I am open to racing my 993 RS vs. the E36 M3 LTW for titles (unless the owner hires Auberlin, Stuck or Said to drive it!).

If I can recall, Bmw enginners handpicked the engines for the LTW M3's (yes even the ones delivered to the United States) One can speculate that the engines may dyno higher, and increased engine life span.

You need to step outside the E36 "fan-boy" mentality over on bimmerforums.

The E36 M3 LTW, while rare, was really nothing special. Slightly lighter, slightly stiffer, a few aero pieces which won't do anything on the street, different interior, etc, etc. No gain in power on paper, no massive changes to the drivetrain, etc, etc.

A slightly modded E36 M3 will be faster on the street/strip/track compared with a LTW.

The great thing about the E36 M3, is that is has to be the easiest car in the world to drive at 10/10th on the track, and hence, makes the car look quite fast in the hands of just about anyone.

Anyone interested in a 993 over an E36 is smoking some good stuff...

Although this car might not be very different from the regular E36 M3, it is very rare and I think that $30k is actually a decent price.
