Any previous/current owners of 1988 E28 M5?

I am considering picking one up that is in minty condition and was just curious what current or past owners thought of them as far as comfort and driving quality compared to say the E39 M5(2000-2003) another car I am considering? Any reason not to get one? For longer trips we usually drive the RR which, while it is nice and comfortable, it is like a pig on roller skates in the handling department. I am hoping the E28 isn't too much of a step backwards that I end up not driving it.

All things considered which would you rather own? I personally like the size and looks of the E28 better.

The E28 was and has been one of my all-time favorites. I had one that I bought in 1996 and drove until I bought my E39 M5 (2000 model). I miss that car and would love to have another. Also, my 2000 model has been a great car with no issues.

Check this one out...

Lucifer's Hammer: Ken H's S38B35 4.0L Turbo:

This is from mye28.com. The fellow in question, Ken H, is a local resident of the Denver Metro area. I met Ken a few years back and he is a hoot and a half. However, his E28 M5 is serious; it is one of the best examples I have ever seen. Now, his turbo E28 M5 is even more serious

Take two hours or so and read through these threads thoroughly. The result is awesome.

wow, serious undertaking. I have been in this position on my muscle cars, not fun. He maintained a very good attitude through it all. That is the key to surviving a project like that. Thanks for the links!

Comparing an E28 to an E39 is a stretch. Very different dynamics, separated by a lot of years.

The E28's are VERY fun cars, with fantastic motors. Somewhat of a 4dr E30 M3 with "mo' powa" They are getting long in the tooth though, so finding a minty example would be advised to keep the headaches to a minimum.

Had an old roommate who owned one, had like 30k miles on it, cleaner than it came off the showroom floor. Sat in a garage and got driven maybe once a year.... bit of a waste, but sure was a beauty.

It's a rough comparison between a e28 and e39. Both great cars in their own way but very different imo
