BMW's make you look like a hero on the track, because it is so easy to drive.
I mean, I passed E46 M3's in the fast group in my E30 with its thundering 160HP engine for crying out loud.
But those same people passed me in the 996 Turbo with their E46 M3's.
Why? Because P cars are harder to drive fast. And really, what's the fun in going fast if it's not you that's doing it?

Very insightful. Like others, you just can't help getting personal when coming to defend the great Blau mit weiss.
Apparently you guys will buy anything with a roundel.

Porsche drivers are *******s? And what stellar reputation do they think BMW drivers have?
All they can do is post a bunch of reviews, never mind that most probably have never been to the track, or drive fast enough on the track where they notice that gee, the M3's can't stop.
It's funny how personal they take when we are just talking about a car.
I wonder how many M3's those people have had. They should check around, many Porsche drivers moved on from M3's for a reason. We don't like the direction BMW M(arketing) is taking with the M3.
The E9x doesn't deserve to share the same badge with E30 EVO and the E36 S50B32.

It's just like some posts here where people have no idea what they are talking about, and are equating their self worth with the car they drive.

edit: stuka, its funny how they can back you on m3post but yet you have one of the best cars to ever come from the factory in your GT2, that alone is credability enough! those guys would take a GT2 in a heartbeat. theyll cling to their "but our car cost X dollars less" and our car has an actual back seat and trunk" hahahahhahahahhahaha
i have an m3 still, i accepted it for what it is, and also what it isnt. other need to do the same.

They talk all this crap about us, but at least we really own our cars when we post pics of it! Look at the kind of crap these guys are posting:

Damn kids! And I shouldn't have to say that since I'm still in my 20's!

No need to bash on any car. They are all amazing cars! I've driven plenty of cars and have ones I like driving over other ones, but I can't honestly say one car is better then another. Especially when you are comparing an M3, to a GT2/3. Yes the GT2/GT3's are one hell of a car, but you cannot compare them to each other when they are double the price of the M3. If you really wanted to compare cars then take one at the same price range. For the Porsche that would be the Caymen vs. M3.
I am a TRUE car enthusiast. I love all different brands. I do not think one brand is the "GOD" of all cars. They are built for different purposes and have their advantages/disadvantages to other cars.

I like BMW's, I think they are great cars (when they aren't having problems). I accept them for what they are, just like what many here have alluded to.
The M3 is a fixed up 3 series car, that is virtually everywhere on one's daily commute. I really can't tell the difference until I get behind the wheel, and really, that's where it counts, anyways.
I think the problem that many on the BMW forum are having is that they are trying to cross shop the two cars, when they really shouldn't. When I'm in the market for a sedan, I'll look for a sedan. Who in their right mind is going to buy a Porsche and think that they are getting a car with a huge trunk, back seats, 4 doors, air cooled/heated seats, bluetooth, etc? Some of the conversations on that board are idiotic! If they really want all these things, you shouldn't be buying a Porsche (unless its a Cayenne or Panamera).

Greg and Stuka, while I would love to agree with you guy's on a few very important topics you have mentioned, in regards to the newer marketing and m3, I agree. As for the other comments? I don't .
Now this is from someone who had and experienced them all throughout stages of stock to modded. The e46M even stock to me I'd fantastic and highly capable, I ran just as fast around limerock in a stock m as I did in my 996tt (1:06)
The 996ttin stockish form suspension wise is just scary/uninvolving and too wallowy, I didn't have much confidence in it as I did in the m3. The m3 was fantastic even stock, still a bit scary with its body roll and stock suspension tires and such on sweepers and the uphill where the weight transfer is crazy! But it was so controlable throughout every turn.
My m3 now on coilovers fully corner weighed and balanced, sways, big brake kit was out of this world, no understeer, the right amount over controlable oversteer and so precise steering wise, I wish you guy's could have experienced an m done right, maybe you would then have a better appreciation :/

the m3 is always going to be easier to drive because of the weight distribution, the 911 will be more of a challenge, just a lambo or ferrari would, but its also infinitely more rewarding.
do you realize that Porsche has 8 cars (in stock form) that lap the nurburgring in under 8 mins (a huge feat to break 8 as you know) and bmw only has 1 (which was on cup tires and will prob never achieve that time again as its an anomaly). i think that stat there shows that when driven at full potential which is the faster car.

the m3 was fun all modded up but stock its nothing special. id rather have a stock boxster s or cayman S, or my c4 back in stock form.
