That's very sad to hear... Makes me think of how wreckless I've been driving on open highways at 150mph.

Time to cool my jets I'd say.

First of all that was a great thread, with beautiful photos..... But I disagree with you about the adequacy of that runway for doing high speed runs. Sure you had plenty of time to stop.... because everything went right..... but if something went wrong(ie, brake failure) you would of ended the run in the pine forest.

Here is a speed/distance chart taken from the Car and Driver magazine 0-200-0 mph shootout. This event was held on a 13,000 foot runway. Checkout the Saleen results.... it nearly ran off the end!!

http://www.caranddriver.com/assets/d...0_speeddis.pdf

Allways plan for the unexpected!! It is not safe to do high speed tests on runways or anywhere else unless you have at least a couple of miles of unobstucted space, marked off with a designated braking area...It also helps to have paramedics/fire crews around too. We see so much of this on the boards(high speed driving vids and the like) that we tend to forget these speeds are extremely dangerous and unforgiving!

That is just horrible news regardless who may be at fault. This kind of news just brings a downer to my day. My sympathy to the families involved.

Be safe out there guys.

His parents need to be flogged publicly.

What do you expect a child to do with that car? I would have gone crazy in that thing. Hell, the things I did in my damn chipped 1.8t A4 at that age still scares me.

My kids (lord help us) are getting Jeeps and going through performance driving schools as soon as they're old enough.

It's really unfortunate that some people only learn from tragedy. Sadly, incidents like this will keep coming up. There really should be a law in place that prevents children from using a car of this magnitude outside of a track.

Maybe there should be a special license for any sedan/coupe that's over 300hp. Sure it sounds a tad excessive, but there's so many inexperienced and naive people driving all out race cars and have no clue how to drive it.

Great chart...

But, it's easy and fast to go 0-150..only took 1800 ft. That leaves more than almost half of the 4700ft runway to stop. As you can see on the chart, they can break a lot faster than they accelerate. The Saleen 7 used all that runway to get from 185-200 mph...he gobbled up 4200 ft of asphalt for the extra 15 mph.

And yes, if I had no breaks, I would have ended up 2 neighborhoods over

I was VERY comfortable in the 0-150-0 run as you can see in the video. That was actually my first test run and what I would call my safe run. Never would I do anything at night.

man, why the fack do some of your tone needs to be so facked up... ppls lives were taken...

ya maybe he was foolish and young, but it does not mean you guys can call him stupid like some others on this thread..

i agree that he was not smart, but instead of saying things like god speed or rest in peace most of you as$holes are being As$holes what if it was your kid, wouldn't you feel bad or get hurt that a bunch of car guys are criticizing him in a bad way.

a lot of you need to change your tone because the kid was a car guy and it would hurt his soul to read things like this..

JOSH AND FRIENDS RIP

my condolences to your family's

Dropped 65-70 feet over a 200-foot distance. I calculate their speed when going airborn at only 65-68 mph. Just another 80-feet of breaking and they'd still be here today. What a shame that youth is wasted on the young!
