Why no carbon roof for the M5

Oh I don't know if I fully agree. The M5 is a luxury sports sedan. I would not say it is not a sports car. It is heavy (4200 lbs) but it does move quite well in my opinion.
With some mods my M5 scoots down the 1/4 mile in 11.65 sec. at 125 trap. Not to shabby. I could lose a few lbs but I do not want to compromise the luxury and comfort of the car. The car is still used for dinner and outings.

Surely you used nitrous on that 11.65 @ 125mph? There is no way an N/A M5 can do that. Here are the fastest M5's on dragtimes and both have very serious mods in addition to 100 shot NOS:

I don't think the car can get much faster unless we start to shed weight and I do not want to deface the luxury feel of the car. Despite the power the car is great for going out and dinner. Great daily driver.

i'm pretty sure bmw can't make a carbon fiber roof for 4 dr cars because of steel b-pillar they need to install to get the rear doors on properly. the new m3 sedan also doesn't offer the carbon fiber roof.

Everyone's definition of "sports car" is different. I don't consider M5's sports car but it's the best 4 door sedan that is really, really fast. My E39 was faster than the 1st 996's built. It took the 3.6 in '02 to surpass my M5.

I'm surprised even your '02 911 could beat an e39 m5 on the highway given that it's what like 320hp vs 300hp for the previous year? M5 makes almost that much at the wheels.

The current E60 M5 is a larger car than the E39. It is a luxury car with an awesome m A stock M5 can not otor. I have called it, "luxury on steroids". A stock M5 can not out pull a stock 997 TT. Now a modded E60 M5 will pull away from the 997TT. Taking into consideration the 800 lb weight difference, this makes for an even comparison with the mods.
On pure motor my M5 has put down 460 to 465 rwhp. I have out pulled 997TT.
The car is not a road racing car but in straight line power it has the goods.
On nitrous the M5 has out run a modded C6 Z06 Vette.

This run was 60 to 180 mph. That vette was an absolute monster.
