06 M3's with comp package actually have launch control.

I would recommend staying away from 02 M3's/ Stick with 03.5 and above. I think the 06 M3's with comp package are the best.

How much are you looking to spend?

Also consider options - it's not like an S2000 where all you need to search for is the right color/condition/price.

Options to take note of (besides for SMG):
19s
NAV
PDC
Alum Trim
HK Audio
Rear Sunshade (ignore)
Leather (or Prem)
Heated Seats (or Cold Weather)
Bi-Xenon

I think options can total $10K... so used prices can fluctuate a lot based on that.

All the years had launch control...although some people reported having problems getting burnout mode to work. The 05s with the comp package are the same as the 06s.

And as far as donuts and burnouts....just as easy in an SMG as a 6MT.

I owned an SMG M3 for about 25K miles also and absolutely LOVED it. In fact, if the cards fall right, I may start looking for another one soon.

Good luck in your search.

I liked the SMG as well. Only problem I had with it was a brief software issue that caused it to put itself into neutral at random and I could not get it back into gear unless I stopped the engine and restarted.

they didn't start making the smg until 2002 so you just narrowed your year range to 02-04. I have an 03.5 and owned it for about two years without any problems and absolutely love it!

My SMG tranny held up just fine, even with the AA Gen 1 Stg 3++ kit with the AP racing clutch. No lights or problems

I liked SMG.
