X6M - X5M in SNOW?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on an X6M. I live in the Northeast and this will be a daily driver. I have had a cayenne turbo which needed new wheels and tires before snow driving but was great after that. Tire rack as of today has all weather tires but no wheels as of yet BMW has a winter wheel package that costs 3800. Has anyone done anything with their XM vehicle to make it more snow capable or has anyone experienced their car in snow? Any info would be appreciated.

all you need is tires, re use your stock wheels and no problem. ANY car can be driven in the snow

Thumbs up

These cars love the snow. I have had my X6M now for 2 months... we have gotten killed with snow in the Northeast, like so many parts of the country (UGH) but this SAC is amazing. Lennon is right, get snows... I bought 20" Pirelli Scorpion Ice (yea.. a 20" snow tire) and it works like a charm. The car is solid and performs really really well and with confidence!

Pull the trigger. My bias, X6M. Unless you have a family and you will be hauling loads in the back and you need room for 5, the X6M is the way to go. Check out this pix and videos

DoctaM3,

Thanks, Your car is awesome. I love the interior. Did you order it that way or was it on the showroom? I was thinking about the same with silver exterior. My Aston is dark gray so I figured I would go for a bit of a contrast. Where did you get the tires? Did you drive your car in the snow we had before Christmas? Do you switch back to performance tires in the spring? Sorry for all of the questions but I really want to buy this car. Thanks for the info.

Yep, I ordered my car this way. My Superleggera is Grigio Telesto so perfect mates. I got my tires from TireRack but that was before the season started. Its now hard to find them (Pirelli Scorpion Ice). There are a few other setups they can get you in but I have always hated how the smaller snows looked meager on a ride like this (had the X5 4.8is before). I will switch back to stock performance tires once the snow ends. Hope this helps.

I see quad exhaust, so that looks like an X5M but from the looks of it, performance tires... I can't stress enough, DON'T drive on snow with performance tires... just not worth it!

You are absolutely right. Missed the quads!
Happened at a Mountain resort in Europe recently.
Only thing hurt was the pride of the owner. There were no injuries.

What does off-road capability have to do with snow tires?

I have sold several X owners snow tires and a few have reported back the same thing BMW will tell you - that their cars are lousy without snow tires, and very good with them.
