It is true that these cars and the M6's usually get taken by a car in the beginning but very fast cars, but they make it all back and pass their competition fairly quickly. Here is an example of one taking on a stock 996tt. Now these cars are close enough that a mistake can give the win either way. However, this shows how good that high rpm engine is.

There is another video on the m5board that shows an E60M5 beating a modded turbo. I can't believe that one, but I am guessing the turbo driver screwed up somehow. In any case, the vid above proves the point well on how good that engine pulls. In the last week and a half, I have driven about 4 - 4 door sedans. E39, AMG E55, 335i, E60. The E60 was by far the most powerful and fastest.
Wow that I did not expect. I mean I love the E60 M5, hell I own two but that was severe trouncing. I feel the M6 is bit faster possibly.
From a roll I've run 997TT and the E60 M5 made it close at the top end, beyond 150. I found the higher the mph to start the run the better I was.
Now you said even beating a modded 997TT?

What I said was based on my opinion and also comparing the S85 to the LS7 in the Z06. I would gladly trade the 1,000 rpm of redline to have more accessible power all the way thru the rev range. The S2 BMW M5 feels very special and I always felt the S62 had life left in it and it would have made a great engine for the E60 M5.

Also as I said that I also come from a different frame of mind as well, my 500 hp 3250 lb Vette feels slow to me off the nitrous and it eats M5's and M6's for breakfast. I just felt that the E63 and the new CTS-V feel fast all the time no matter what engine speeds and road speeds you are at.

To me truly special engines just don't push specific output barriers but also push torque per liter barriers as well. Making a engine live at big engine speeds is an achievement but you can't call 383 lb ft @ 6100 rpm an achievement. The S54 is an engine that comes to mind that not only pushed specific output but also had more torque per liter than any other 6 cylinder.

Ferrari's 458 Italia is the best V8 on the planet now and it not only shatter specific output but also has more torque per liter and an amazing powerband with a 9000 rpm rev limit. It also is in a car light enough to be propelled very easy by its 398 lb ft.

I am not saying I hate the S85 I think its a great engine, but I am almost glad that they are using the S63B44 because its an amazing engine and I sincerely believe it will be able to support 650-700 flyhweel hp with the right modifications.

I don't think an E60 could beat a 997tt both stock. I think that has been shown as well. I also don't think that an E60 could beat a 996tt with just a tune and exhaust, even though there is a video of such. I think the new M5 will be much faster in the entire power band. Except it will not go to 8500 rpm like the V10 can.

Once again I was the one to bring this up but I believe it will be the case and that is. The new TT V8 M5/M6's will have little turbos and be running 21 lbs of boost.
I don't want to debate it because it is not absolutely sure. I've had some discussions but lets see what the coming specs say.
I for one am very interested to see what gives.

Regarding the runs, I've seen a modded M6 beat soundly a stock Z06 but not a modded M5. The only time I beat a somewhat modded Z06 with my M5 was with nitrous. On motor he killed me.

Ill bet against it.. If they have to run 21psi thru any TT setup either the turbos are weak or the motor is not setup like the E60 with CNC heads good compression etc.. to make 585 crank would be nothing on an e60.. I could do that on 5psi with turbos as small as the 335..

Ive beat both with my e60 on top.. low MPH race its closer but 150 up MURDER on 996 with bolt ons and 997tt stock.. The e60 moves on top like nothing else all motor.. I put down 600's by accident and 1000s it takes to about 175 to get by.. That stock bikes or just basic exhaust etc..

Mike, I believe you. This motor never ceases to amaze me. The new M5/M6 cars may end up with more power, but their engines won't be this good for sure. This V10 is a really well built motor.

It will be interesting. I can't wait to see goes to production. I know what you mean about the engine. One of the reasons why I've said this was because what is the psi on the TT motors for the X6M / X5M? Can you get more info?
Thanks

Hmm you must be a great driver the ones I have raced when I pull out a whole 787 from 60 that its a waste of time going for a 170 mph roll race.

I think with this new engine that it will make the 6 speed again a viable choice.

The RPM range on the V10 is so great that if your not in the power band you might loose. you really have to know how to drive one, just like cars with lots of turbo lag. Peak Torque is at 6100 rpm IF I start a roll, I would start at 4500-5000 rpm. Redline is 8500. It does have plenty of low end grunt, but not enough to pull a TT car. But the videos I have seen make me a believer.
