2009 535i engine problem
I am a loyal BMW driver for the last 26 years. My 2009 535i- 6 speed loaded car has had 2 episodes of "engine shutdown", meaning power reduction. Incident #1- I was driving over the George Washington Bridge in NYC in the left lane doing 65+. Suddenly, the engine malfunction light comes on and the power drops 95%. The car was stalling and barely moving at 15 MPH. The second episode occurred 5 months ago on a highway in NJ. The same thing happened. On both occasions I was able to pull of the road safely and not be crushed by any tracker trailers or other vehicles. I was lucky. BMW service replaced 2 fuel pumps and fuel injectors? They tried their best.
The 2009 535i has a major defect that is dangerous.( I don't know the % of cars affected?)
The twin turbo engine is defective ( in this case) and potentially a fatality waiting to happen.
I am refusing to go back into my 535i 2009 vehicle and I have asked BMW North America to lease me another car. I cannot risk my life or my family's safety anymore.
I am a loyal customer and still want to drive a BMW. This is an opportunity for BMW to show customer loyalty and do the right thing.
Anybody else experienced or heard about this problem?
Thank you

4 fuel pumps, injectors, new turbo later...I have gotten rid of the car. I DO NOT trust the BMW turbo technology at all.
It is not worth the headache at all. I had the EXACT problems you were describing and as a countless number of folks with this new inline 6 turbo engine.

Perhaps it's time for a Porsche Panamera.

As far as I know, the problem has not been corrected. That is why I don't even consider the new V8 turbos from BMW or any turbo from them for that matter...

Me and my bro bought two 2009 m3 brand new dct. My bro kept getting trany malfunctions on hos car. He did not even have 1500 miles on it. So he went three to four time then they said they replaced the tranny and then we argued with the manager and he bought the car back and gave him a brand new identical 2010 m3. I hope this helps. Also if your car is in the shop pver 30 days they will still give you a loaner and pay your pmts till problem is resolved so I was told. Hope this info hels you. Good luck .

The 2011 5 series looks like a 7 series imo. Bmw overall is a good car don't loose faith. They have the best after purchase service plans...... No one on the market offer bumper to bumper like they do
