STOP THE COPY! AC Schnitzer Fights Product Piracy

AC Schnitzer fights product piracy for your safety under the motto: "Stop the Copy"

AC Schnitzer products, in particular wheels, undergo numerous tests to guarantee their strength in every situation.

Recently impounded wheel copies which AC Schnitzer has passed to the TUEV for testing were found to be dangerous.

Because of poor quality, counterfeit copies can suffer sudden catastrophic damage not only in vehicles moving in the limit range, but also on vehicles in "normal" use. No insurance will cover the consequences and resulting compensation claims.

The impounded wheel copies were a safety risk to road traffic and have been destroyed.

In addition, economic losses amounting to millions for the worldwide AC Schnitzer trading organization are another important reason for AC Schnitzer to take rigorous action against product piracy.

AC Schnitzer will continue to take action against all counterfeiters, and thus make an active contribution to customer safety. Because buyers of AC Schnitzer products have a right to high quality special developments which have undergone extensive testing, and this can only be guaranteed by AC Schnitzer Original Parts.

A few facts about product piracy

  • The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) estimates the economic damage caused by product and brand piracy in Germany to be around 20 - 30 billion Euro per year
  • In the estimation of the DIHK, already around 70,000 jobs have been lost
  • When they use counterfeits or copies, consumers may be exposing themselves to substantial risks of accident and danger to health

Actually, if you buy a faulty wheel, and it breaks, your insurance company will cover the resulting damage. We won't cover the broken wheel, but everything else is good.

Just like if you blow a tire. We won't cover the tire, as you should have replaced that before it blew, but we will cover any damage caused by the blown tire.

I am not sure how it is in your country, but I am 99% sure that in Germany the insurance will not cover damages that where caused e.g by a knock of wheel without TÜV. Like in Switzerland (personal experience) all mods in Germany must/should be registered and included with your cars registration papers. You can't do that unless you have the supporting documents (TUV certificate etc) and unless you have those mods registered you wount be able to insure the car. Somebody from Germany should give his/her two cents.

Techart for example does the whole "Tune it safe" campaign which essentialy is the same thing....don't buy crap, it might kill you. http://jalopnik.com/135219/techart-b...te-safe-tuning

Insurance coverage aside, buying a knock-off product of any kind has several adverse effects. Aside from installing a lesser-quality product, you could potentially negate any performance advantage the product was originally intended to offer. Then there's the economic downsides of supporting companies that don't to their own R&D or necessary quality control. Here is a chart from a study that the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) conducted. They estimate the economic damage caused by product and brand piracy in Germany to be around 20-30 billion Euro per year. Along with the monetary destruction, around 70,000 jobs have been lost. Hopefully, this makes you think twice the next time someone tries to sell you something with a "it's just like the real thing, but for half the cost" hook...

Didn't Hamann go thru the same thing, when people were making knockoffs of their wheels also?

I remember this happened like a couple of years ago, this was a video about it too....
