Thumbs up M5 spare tire

my '08 M5 is used for short 2 or 3 day jaunts and extended drives from baja oklahoma to the west coast - I like taking routes that are off the interstates which makes me worry about getting a flat tire out in the middle of injun country - so..

I purchased an aftermarket wheel, the same size as the M's front wheel and mounted one of my spare tires on it, had the service department at my dealership check the "fitness" on both the front and rear of my car (for clearances) and will now carry it on the above mentioned trips.

next, a jacking device - I tried a "scissors" type of jack but I wasn't comfortable with the flimsiness of that so I'll also carry along a floor jack - I bought a small device that fits nicely with the jack and the car's jack pad fittings.

weight and space is a non-issue for me when I travel so, I'm ready for my next trip

anyone else travel with a spare ?

I found the OEM scissors jack to be too flimsy for my taste - the "fitting" that I got from an ebay advert has a machined rectangular piece that fits perfectly into the "notch" of which you've mentioned (at each jack point)

and then, it has a circular base that fits perfectly onto the saddle of the floor jack - much more stable, in my opinion.. but, whatever works

ive actually read a good review lately on the titan air jack that fills itself with exhaust air - might be worth a look
