I blew up my Beemer

Well that was an expensive Monday. The car is in the shop getting buckets of $$$$ thrown at it.
It's only been gone 4 day's and I already can't wait to get her back and see what it's like. Will keep people informed as to the mods and performance gains.

yeah but instead of money swishing around the boot it's going to be shifting from my bank account to under the hood.

Basically BMW used plastic fittings on the radiator tanks, water pump impellers etc and they have a tendancy to fail. And fail mine did, spectacularly.
To put a finer point on it I cooked the motor due to a radiator failure and because it's an older model and I've upgraded the gearbox etc there's no warrantee.
So I've got a few choices

A, rebuild the motor I have and give it a shot of Nos into it's backside.
B, Replace the motor with either a later model BMW or a 2J Toyota supra or RB26 Nissan 6cyl.
C, Drop in an LS1, sit back and giggle alot.

Either way I'll know tomorrow after my mechanic replaces the waterpump and does a leakdown test. It all rests on that result.

Should be fun, I've got to go buy a beater car for a while methinks, can't ride a GSXR750 in a suit to work. Not a good look for clients.

So you have an E36. On my E36 325is, the radiator hose neck broke... like you said, plastic. The whole cooling system is a problem on these machines. I checked it out before I got my M3 though .

I'd say drop an S54 in it.

P.S.
Just so you know, beemer= BMW motorcycle
bimmer= BMW car

What year is it? 1995 and earlier you could get an S50 and that's a rather easy swap. Or you could get an S52/S54 if it's `96+. You can also convert back to OBDI if u want the `96+ engines in a `95 or older car. I had a `91 318is that I dropped in the `95 M3 motor which was rather fun. I had wanted to do an LS1 but it would cost too much in terms of custom motor mounts, tranny mounts, driveshaft, headers, etc. The M engines are pretty direct swap but the S54 motor would take some good wiring/computer skills.

No offense, but how did you miss the memo on the plastic impellar water pump?

I hope it all works out for the best.

Update.

Well the motor passed the leak down test. I ended up putting a new radiator, water pump and thermostat+ housing on the motor. I had the car back on the road 1 week when the next drama took place.

I can't go into too much detail due to the police investigation and subsequent court case which will happen but Ill give the brief version.

Ex neighbor (R34 skyline) hates BMW's and Porsches = slight stirring comments towards me
I move and sell my house (not because of him)
I see him driving around he makes some gesturative comments, I respond by calling his car a datsun, he takes offence at this and continues with said tirade to which my reply was to invite him to pull over to sort the problem out like men instead of children.
His response is to ram the side of my Bmw with his datsun and cause about 7 grands worth of damage.
I later find out that he's unlicenced and has a huge traffic history.

So the bottom line is my car is in the panel shop awaiting repairs. My insurer is attempting to do me over because of the mods to my car rarther than do their job and just get my car back to me. In the meantime I'm left driving a loan car (thanks to a mate who owns a hire car company) I don't know when I'll get my car back.
The ex neighbor is looking at posible jail time and or a huge fine. All because he decided to be an idiot and I decided I wasn't going to take crap.

My wife is pissed at me cause she really loves the BMW and refuses to be seen in the loan car.

So thats about it at the moment. Time to drown my sorrows.
