On the flip side, if you have a disposable income to a certain extent why not just buy a normal M3 and import a CSL and stamp the US ones VIN onto the CSL?
That is very smart.

I'm not saying it would work where you live, i'm just saying that there are two skylines in town that are not legalized but are registered for road use, so anything is possible.
and then when they see the VIN# isn't a legalized one, they take the car and crush it...or send it back to Germany...

like i said, that would be a definate problem if our local setup wasn't a total joke. i'm sure in cali or florida (hell, probably any other place than OMAHA, NEBRASKA) it would probably matter.

I wouldnt personally risk it. I vote for buying a wrecked M3 that still has a clear title and then just put that vin on the CSL. Who's gonna know the difference?

This question has been a bit unclear in many message boards. In most (or all?) countries both the cd player and aircon were listed as "no cost options". Most CSL's have them both, of course.

When the car was on retail (about 1400 pieces - 422 right hand),
you are right, you had that kind of choices.
Also you could get it with the Semislicks (Michelin Cups)
or with the usual road tires.

As to the options case, mine, is an ALL OPTIONS piece, which include:

1. BMW Business Radio with CD player
2. Clima
3. Xenon lights
4. and PDC (parking distance control)

Its a shame for BMW that never exported any of these
extreme cars to the US.

Alex you own a CSL? You got any pictures? I have never Met A CSL owner.

How do you like the performance? have you driven ordinary e46 m3? if so, how would you compare the performance to the CSL?

Fortunately Yes! I am a very happy owner.
I will post many of my photos (especially on track!).

There are many differences between an M3 and an M3 CSL.
Sound: Unbelievable! The carbon airbox is freaking!
Power: There is a noticable difference between the two cars, and except the 17 more HP,
the weight is really a serious matter (-150 to 200 kgr).

But, the main difference, is the "Racing" character
of this car INSIDE and OUTSIDE.
Inside the buckets, the carbon pieces, the alcantara wheel...
Outside the carbon roof, spoilers, splitters etc...

Weight : lighter, PERFECTLY balanced,
ideal for track and journeys too
(no problem for me, I never open the Radio-CD, I own a private orchestra!).

As BMW CAR wrote: ///M GMBH Epitome of Know-how...

It cannot be done. I would have it if it could. Even if you snuck the car in on your private freighter the Alpha software loaded into it will throw all kinds of lights when you put US gas in it so bring along a few thousand lbs of that as well.

You can buy all the exterior bits from various sources except the wheels.
Unless your name matches up to the VIN of your CSL , you cannot get OEM CSL parts.

The car will not be touched by a BMW dlr even for a simple oil change.

I have a 05 ZCP with the similar steering feel and various knock off suspension pieces for the CSL which is as close as you can get.

As far as that Air box, again the Alpha SW needs to be loaded w/that and where are you gonna get the SW ?? Not to mention the air box is $5200

My ZCP plus my AA STG 2 S/C will suk the hood off a CSL.

I would like the CSL CF roof though. Of course that is about $5K if you can find a shop to do it. I know of one in Beruit that can do it if interested.
