Anyone here owned an 8 series?

Just looking out the window at work and saw an 8 series coupe. Looks damn nice even though its 15 years old! Are they reliable?

Just wondering, as looking at autotrader over here, they can be had for silly money.....should really get back to work!

I like them. Do you will buy a 850 or 840? I think the 850 is a very good engine. How many miles has it?

My friend has owned 2 of them. If you want his contact info, PM me.

I drove one of the cars for a week before shipping it off to Georiga. The car was ok, but the power delivery is somewhat lagging. It's a good cruiser, but no rocket. The suspension was a bit clanky, but I believe it was original. I walked out one morning to find fuel under the driver's side door. Ended up just being a clamp. Car also blew a coolant line the second my friend started the car Oops.

Had a 91 and a 94 both had engine control and fuel rail problems. Nice topend speed but a real dog up to 100.

They are unique though. I saw one at the temporary BMW museuem in Munich last summer (have a picture, but can't seem to be able to upload...) I always liked the car. I would probably advise against as the service records don't seem to be too favorable.

I think The 8series and the Z8 are the best Bmw's built to date, I wish they build a new 8 Series and give it the M treatment with the 500hp V10.

The 8-series is by far my favorite BMW ever. I was in my teens when I saw it 1 year before the official launch, totally unmasked, on a twisty Swiss road. Its impressive looks and quad exhaust (not very common at that time) sure made an impression on a young car nut.

Screw reliability - get an automotive icon and you automatically earn my mad respect

Although gorgeous, the only things I've heard about the 8 series is that they are notorious for reliability issues.

I think the 850IS is one of the most beautiful if not the best looking BMW ever built. a remake with the V10 and a 6 speed would be to die for.
